Reports coming out of the ever-thrilling component supply chain world suggest that HTC is joining Apple in lessening its dependence on Samsung, moving away from the company and finding alternative suppliers for some internal parts of its smartphones.
Hit and miss supply chain news resource DigiTimes claims HTC is moving away from Samsung as the supplier of image sensors, instead preferring to use OmniVision and Sony to make the camera systems it’ll be loading into future models. HTC is said to be continuing with Samsung as a supplier of mobile displays, but only due to yield and supply issues.
It’s unlikely to trouble Samsung too much, as HTC’s been on a downward trajectory for some time, while sales of its own range of Galaxy models continue to rocket the company, and Android, to unprecedented new highs. [Techradar via DigiTimes]

The HTC One Is Delayed Because Suppliers Think HTC Isn't a Top Tier Company
Was Samsung Right to Call Other Smartphone Buyers Sheep?
RIM Ditching the Cheap Kiddy Phones (Updated: Other RIM Man Says It Isn't)
Wanting a new phone, HTC One X or SG3, or note 2??
Replaceable battery, removable storage dictate the Samsungs, it just depends if you want to poke it or not!
As long as the phone can last me a good day I’m not too bothered about a replaceable battery. Also removable storage is a small plus but I could live happily without.
I said that all too readily, but still one of the first things I did was purchase an additional battery for the phone. £21 and it’s always there if I need it. A day photographing a rugby tournament then straight out at night is easily accommodated with a 30sec battery swap
As far as one of your later comments regarding screen quality, I’d say the SGSIII is still better than the One-X, I’m sure the reflectivity index is lower as well.
The battery swap seems clever when you say it like that, I will decide the screen quality for my self when I look at them in the shop. I have had a bit of a play with the SG3 and the only thing I came away with is that just scrolling through the app list is stuttery, something I haven’t really experienced with an iPhone. But that isnt going to put me off as the screen size was spot on.
It’s immensely useful! I will admit I did purchase an additional charging dock to charge both phone and battery simultaneously, but I’d argue the practicality outweighs the small additional expense.
The stuttering isn’t present for me, and I also wouldn’t expect it to be there in stock JB (which I’m guessing the handset wasn’t running).
I ditched stock fairly early on, but that’s because I like fiddling with CM10
Probably not, I’m not sure what it was running. What’s CM10?
Sorry, not fluent in Android, but I do like fiddling with stuff like that and would like to get max performance out of the phone
How is the removable storage set out on the phone? like old phone’s do you go to music > SD card > artist, if so that’s crap.
I’d want the removable storage to be seen as the phones shared main memory and not have to select SD Card or Phone memory for something.
CM10 is a custom variant of Android, based on the open source code. 10 denoting the 10th version, i.e. Jelly Bean.
In most instances you just copy the content to the phone and the apps on there find the content wherever you’ve put it.
I just read up on CM, looks good, you get the crapware and pointless shit off and have a clean OS.
As long as Google Now works or some sort of voice control for the car I’m not fussed about Samsung’s own crapware. I am going to look into the SG3 and try get a good sim free deal.
Tbh the stock is good, it’s just that CM is a little better. Though if you’re looking to get and SGSIII purely for CM, I’d hold off – dev’t is a little in limbo atm because to do a proper job of it the team need info released that Samsung aren’t giving them.
LG Nexus.
Why LG Nexus Darrell? The phone isn’t even out yet, it doesn’t look all that remarkable and we’ve yet to see how well it performs.
Your recommendation troubles me. We may have to have you sectioned.
It is a Nexus but it is an LG, don’t like LG from past experiences. Poor build, poor battery. They have most likley changed but from what I’ve seen so far I would prefer the One X.
I like the look of the new One X (the quad core one). I know the SG3 is a great phone, but I just hate the design of the hardware and software, whereas the One X is a beautiful looking phone.
I like the look of the SG3, but I have heard that the One X is superior, the screen is better apparently?
end of the day, either the SG3 or One X, I’d probably go with the cheapest.
Yeah supposedly the screen is better, but with anything I think it’s personal preference. Both phones are good flagship phones, can’t go wrong with either!
I have just upgraded from a Galaxy S2 to a black One X, and although the latter looks ok, I can’t under stand why anyone would call It beautiful. The One X reminds me of the old Orange San Francisco (and in some angles the Toshiba TG01) as It just stinks of cheap. Side by side with my classy looking white S2 the One X looks much older and it doesn’t look/feel ‘premium’
Let’s not go into the side charging socket (head slap) a poor battery life, weak camera flash (I use the torch feature a lot on my s2) and how horrible it feels to hold.
I can’t really complain to much about it though, as I only paid £210 for It (which I will probably get back for my sim free S2) Once the s3 hits below £300 Ill get one, and shouldn’t lose too much on the HOX
I agree with your comparison with the S2, that had a much better design to the S3 and One X. It’s just my personal preference in the world of plastic Android phones, I think the One X is better designed (but not as practical).
Do you like good hardware design? Then One X.
Do you like microSD and a removable battery? Then SG3.
Do you have hands like King Kong? Then Note 2.
Alternatively, consider Darrell’s suggestion.
I don’t have hands like King Kong, but there is something about the size of that thing that shouts out!!
And it’s cheaper than the SG3. I will probably try them first, but hate the sales people, they are shit at their job and know fuck all about phones.
I have a SGS3 and think your best option would be to go into a CPW or P4U and try them – all are great phones but skins and hardware are very different.
Would be worth waiting for the Nexus if you can wait a few weeks as that should not only give you another option, but potentially get you a better deal on one of the 3 in your list.
Ah yea, maybe, closer to christmas they may all go cheaper, I am not in a rush to get one but I’m getting bored of my 4S, as good as it is I’m ready to go back to android and see what they have done in the past 3 years.
Hopefully not the laggy piece of crap it once was.
Skins ? Maybe I’m different but I have the root instruction and chosen custom ROM waiting for my return from the phone shop.
Makes sense, but I’m surprised so many companies have been dependent on so small a supply base, especially when they are subsidaries of competitors.
Most supply chains are oligoplic but in other sectors, companies provide additional finance and business to smaller suppliers to help them expand and provide greater competition for parts but that doesn’t really seem to be happening in tech.
