Amazing scenes of death and carnage were witnessed in the pretend World of Warcraft over the weekend, after an exploit of some kind was used to kill thousands of player characters.
Players began dying en masse late on Saturday night, with WoW forum posters reporting on the deaths of pretty much everyone in their realms, including human and computer controlled characters. Developer Blizzard issued an official statement on the matter, confirming it was a hack of sorts, saying:
Earlier today, certain realms were affected by an in-game exploit, resulting in the deaths of player characters and non-player characters in some of the major cities. This exploit has already been hotfixed, so it should not be repeatable. It’s safe to continue playing and adventuring in major cities and elsewhere in Azeroth.
Death is pretty much only a temporary inconvenience in the Warcraft universe, so those impacted by the hack won’t suffer too much. They’ll just have some terrifying dreams about nuclear wars and apocalyptic flu pandemics for the next few weeks.
A video of the unfolding carnage can be seen on YouTube, if you’re the sort who revels in the suffering of (pretend) others. [WoW via Forbes]

Reminds me of a certain South Park episode
Indeed, This could mean the end of the World…of Warcraft.
Hahahahaha this makes me laugh soo much. Do you reckon they might need to go into the forest and kill some boars
Kill the boars and level up, it will take months of hard work, but for the sake of the world…. of warcraft, we will have to do it.
When Life gets tough you can’t give up on the World… of Warcraft!
I’m not an R-Tard!
really don’t know why but I found this so funny lol.
people on the streets, blinded by daylight, curtains opened people rocking in the corners of their room.
Well now maybe 1000s of players will see daylight again for the first time in years. Breathe in fresh cold air and use their legs.
Those god damn Murlocks and their exploits!
In further news, a new syndrome has been discovered. Users previously suffering from Matrix syndrome were freed temporarily from their computer controlled lives. Users claimed to have experienced real life, colours that weren’t vibrant and a disappointing lack of elfish / dwarfish / wiazardy looks when looking in a mirror.
Wish someone would do the same to Runescape and free my son!
Too late, it happen already a while back. A new skill (masonry or so) was introduced and there was a bug so people could start attacking each other. It ended up in lots of people getting banned, haha.
Sounds like something out of Big Bang Theory! Hilarious!
i guess there will be a sudden surge in mobility scooters then?
What made me laugh about this article was: in the ‘pretend’ World of Warcraft. It’s real to them GOD DAMN IT!
This is true. I am not personally into on-line worlds, but they are actually a form of reality and not ‘pretend’. To be ‘pretend’ would mean that you have a cardboard box and your imagination. In the same respect is a phone call pretending to talk to someone? In some ways on-line worlds can be more real, so some old bald fat bloke can live his inner desire to be a loose pretty young woman.
On-line worlds also have money. To sell land plots in Second Life isn’t pretending to sell land plots, you are selling land plots and making real money – it is a reality in a virtual world.
But is anything real when I clap my hand does it truly make a sound or is it that I expect a sound so a sound is produced. When I pour my milk on my rice crispies do the lovelly balls of ricey goodness truly make a sound or is it just my imagination. Is Kim Kardasian butt actually that big or am I just hoping and willing it
WHO KNOWS!?
My point exactly regarding mobile calls being real? Just because you have limited senses it doesn’t mean it is senseless.
