What happened to Microsoft? When did it get so damn cool? Not only has it just busted out some pretty decent tablets, but its execs seem to know how to have fun too. Steven Sinofsky, head of the Windows unit, decided to mount some skate trucks on the back of a Surface tablet and ride that thing around Microsoft’s campus.
Of course, it’s just a PR stunt to show how hardy the Microsoft Surface is, but there are a lot more dull ways to do that. And yes, Sinofsky did the standard, “oh look, I can drop it and it still works” too, but skating around on a £400 tablet — well, you wouldn’t catch Apple doing that, would you? “What happened to Microsoft?”
A great many things, two words come to mind: Apple & Samsung
“When did it get so damn cool?”
It never was.
Bad, bad Microsoft who forced people into using that completely user-unfriendly, uncool software. Not to mention all that uncool Arc or BlueTrack hardware, Zune players etc.
Did it come sneak into your room and point a gun at you saying you’ll be shot if you don’t use their software? How exactly were people/you forced to use their software?
?
opps no XML tags then! that was supposed to say Sarcasm?…
I don’t think people were forced to use any software.
Oh, sorry, forgot the “/s” for all those who took my awfully bold statement seriously.
I think Microsoft is loosening up a bit these days. I guess they realized that being geeky and high up in the technology chain isn’t something to be embarrassed about anymore.
Microsoft and cool in the same sentence? Nope, still doesn’t work for me.
Lots of Microsoft love on Gizmodo at the moment.
Not really any else to say, but at least you’ve started to try to be a little more balanced on your love-ins.
Let’s not forget that it does now say ‘in association with Nokia Lumia’ next to the Gizmodo banner.
Yeah, I noticed that a few days ago too.
I for one think that the new attitude towards Microsoft is a welcome reflection of what Microsoft have been doing for a couple of years. Thank you Gizmodo for spreading your love beyond the walled garden or Apple.
