Without any explanation, Motorola has withdrawn its complaint with the International Trade Commission that Apple is infringing on seven of its patents. Just a guess, but maybe it has something to do with the $1.05 billion dollars Samsung was recently ordered to pay Apple for copying the designs of the iPhone and iPad.
In a filing, Google (on behalf of Motorola) said a settlement has not been reached—verbal, written, or otherwise. So there isn’t a firm answer on why it chose to back off of a fight that started about two years ago. Maybe the Samsung ruling has other companies a little scared. [Reuters]

I wonder if these guys play dirty. Like, if someone knows something the other doesn’t. Personal information, the sort that could ruin your life. I guess at this level it’s just too risky.
Is “Reneges” the right word here. According to a quick Google search it means “Go back on a promise, undertaking, or contract”.
“Drops” doesn’t quite have the same negative connotations.
I thought it was exactly the wrong word myself. Unless motorola have a contract with Apple stating their going to sue them on 7 patents
In which case Apple will sue them for breach of contract. Hey, Apple’s lawyers had already put the deposit down on that new mailibu beach house based on their earnings from this case, you can’t just go stealing the bread from out of their childrens mouths like that.
It’s disgraceful really, Motorola should be ashamed of themselves. Those lawyers have only been on three, maybe four holidays this year (if you count the weekend trip they took up to the lake, which I totally don’t).
