Odeon Cinemas Now Using Apple's Passbook App for Discount Ticket Sales

By Gary Cutlack on at

Apple's Passbook feature has found itself a couple of big new corporate fans in the UK, with the Odeon cinema chain and Harvester restaurant franchise adopting the mobile ticketing app.

The idea behind Passbook is it's like a little clipbook for all the various special offers retailers are sticking out there to get someone, anyone, to spend some money, with the app storing codes and voucher numbers for iOS6 users to flash at confused checkout staff to receive their percentage off or their free drink or whatever the deal might entail.

The one Odeon's running at the moment, for example, gives promotion-aware consumers 30 per cent off tickets outside of the Friday/Saturday hotspots and can be popped into Passbook, while Harvester has a wide range of promos and offers available, with some exclusively reserved for those visiting the site through iOS6 devices.
