Samsung might not be particularly confident that we’re all ready to adopt the Windows 8 tiles way of doing things, with the tech giant creating a cloned Windows Start Menu tool to give its next-gen Windows hardware the option of a familiar feel.
The above Windows-style launcher is Samsung’s own S Launcher, which will be an option within its updated Windows 8 hardware. Although, presumably to help keep Microsoft happy, the launcher won’t actually ship alongside the Win 8 devices — you’ll have to install it yourself through Samsung’s desktop app store if you’d like a retro interface option. They could have at least made it look a little bit less like XP..
I agree. Although MS are trying to recapture the brilliance that was XP. Making it look nice is less of a concern when you want functionality.
This is just from a dock addon too, wait until the customers really start revolting then it will be full VI-Start installations and downgrades to Windows 7 will become more valuable than gold!
Or people will just shrug their shoulders and get used to it.. I use XP and 7 every day and I hardly ever use the start menu except to shutdown
I’m guessing you either have a desktop full of shortcuts, quick launch icons the length of your arm or multiple toolbars in the task bar then?
My desktop is clean with my most needed programs on the taskbar which is vertical between my two monitors and extras on the start menu, I am an early adopter when it comes to tech and work in IT Soultions. Not liking this stuck together UI does not make me a noob. Windows has had it’s day as far as I’m concerned the removal of glass and the fact that I can’t pick one monitor to display the silly full screen start menu is a total letdown for me, so as I said I will be using 3rd party software to get my UI back. Microsoft don’t even believe in their own new UI to give you the choice to not use it, which speaks volumes.
Most people use the search bar on the start menu, on windows 8 it take 5 seconds longer to get to it, now lets say a company has 50,000 employees and pays them £10 per h, that is a loss of £700 per day from there profits.
I’m fairly certain I heard you could just press the windows key and start typing as in Windows 7. What takes the extra 5 seconds?

Your average employee doesn’t usaly use keyboard short-cuts. Most people still click the down arrow even when they have a scroll wheel.
Maybe my average employee needs to learn.
Upgraded to Windows 8 on whim (Previous windows 2k through to 7 user).
I dislike the windows 8 interface, also a little annoyed at how hard microsoft are fighting restoring it, but I wouldn’t downgrade. Mainly because its tedious to constantly change OS but also because I’ve gotten used to it.
I’m all for anything that gets rid of those lame tiles, or bypasses them completely.
Oh Samsung, when will you learn?
Oh sure, because Samsung clearly has more UI experience than Microsoft. I mean it’s not like Samsung’s Android skins are a complete usability aberration.
