The next collection of unbearable idiots to be steered to success by Simon Cowell's conveyor belt of the grotesque might come from the tech world, with the TV talent mogul apparently lining up a quest to find the world's next gadget-creating entrepreneur.
The show, which sounds like it'll combine the concept of Dragon's Den with the bombastic style of Cowell's mainstream moron fodder, was outed by rapper Wiil.i.am, who said: "We’re working on a project called X Factor for Tech -- and it’s going to be out of this world. It’s about getting in touch with youth and giving them a platform to express themselves -- whether that’s in science or mathematics."
The worthy idea behind it being that talent shows produce a couple of stars who make money for themselves and earn 100 times as much for their record companies, but a tech innovator might just come up with an idea and concept that could create viable employment and careers for many more.
A decent enough idea, but do we really want to see a new collection of overly preened idiots pitching their half-baked ideas for new kinds of iPhone apps on TV? [The Sun]
