Samsung has confirmed plans to update the telephones of UK-based Galaxy S III users to the latest 4.1 version of Google’s code, telling users that “Jelly Bean” will arrive this month. There might be a delay while your network amends the bookmarks and installs some crappy apps, mind, but unlocked users ought to be in luck very shortly. [Clove]

Jelly Bean Update Now Live For Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S III Models
Got a Samsung Galaxy S III on O2? Check For Updates, as Jelly Bean's Here
At long last!
Seriously, why does it take so long? This is the most popular Android phone this century. Surely Google and Samsung should work together to get an update out within a month of releasing the software. 4.2 will be out soon.
They launched it a few weeks back, but apparently they have a slight problem with some devices so paused whilst they sorted it out.
I agree I would like it quicker, but equally, I’m happy for them to spend an extra couple of weeks sorting it out so it doesn’t totally screw my device.
It’s been 3 months since launch of the Nexus 7, and it had exclusivity on Jelly Bean a while after. So, how long a wait is it? Not very IMO. And bear in mind the Fruity Ones only get once-yearly major updates. I think we’ve all become soooo impatient in parallel with technological development….
I know it will never happen but I would like the updates shortly after the Nexus get them. It can’t happen and I understand why and that in order to get that I should just buy Nexus, but it doesn’t mean I can’t want that. And as I said above, I would rather them take the time to make sure it worked properly rather than rushing something out to hit a deadline and totally screw my phone.
I have actually been impressed at how quickly the major OEMs have managed to bring out JB on new devices and updates on existing ones. A major improvement on previous versions and hopefully something that will continue.
Haha. Finally. Is there a point anymore? I still don’t undestand why people use this crappy Android ecosystem.
Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Tell me Mr Prozac, do you look like this?

Indeed.
Coz we can actually hold it how we want.
Huzzah!
Now we just need Samsung to release Exynos documentation and source, and we’ll be laughing. I long to have AOSP running smoothly.
This is a joke!
What’s the joke?
That it takes so long to get your hands on the latest OS and some people don’t seem frustrated with it at all.
It doesn’t really matter overly, since it’s so easy to install a custom ROM on these devices. Jellybean has been available for the SGS3 via root for months now.
Also bear in mind that the SGS3 has only been out for a few months – and JB for less time than that (July 9). So it’s only taken Samsung three months, which isn’t too bad at all.
Could be worst. They could have waited a whole year then get iOS 6.
Haven’t Samsung given full hardware support to Cyanogenmod?
Not yet as far as I’m aware. The documentation for the Exynos processor is old and outdated, so the CM team are having a hard time with certain elements – primarily the camera and the HardwareComposer, which means currently the camera has issues and the whole system is slower than it should be.
Ahaaa! So it wasn’t just a problem with my phone! I noticed lower phone scores after flashing CM10, slight juddering and yeah, the camera was bollocks, crashed 75% of the time.
All in all, I kinda prefer Touchwiz though, and I use NFC payments (it only works with Samsung ROM apparently), so I switched back to stock and I’ll wait it out for JB Touchwiz
Yeah, I quite like Touchwiz myself. I’m running on a slimmed version of the stock firmware at the moment, but with a customised launcher and lockscreen. Works flawlessly.
Perhaps I should phrase that better. Haven’t they given all the rights to access drivers and documentation to Cyanogenmod, so they can develop roms without problem?
See above.
I thought they did from this message; http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/16/cyanogenmod-founder-joins-samsung-mobile-promises-to-make-andro/
That’s a pretty old article. Things changed with the SGS3, it seems. Have a look through the XDA forums for more info.
I will do, cheers.

S3 developers are pretty pissed at Samsung, for the reasons detailed above. I doubt my next phone will be from them for this reason.
Got my JB update this morning on my Three S3. Sweet!
Yes it’s Jelly Bean 4.1.1 (even the OTA alert message had “Jelly Bean” plastered all over it and it’s a 280mb update)
Orly? Is that a UK handset? I thought it was coming later for the UK…
My investigations suggest it’s H3G(?) The 3 network?
Annoyingly, I have a BTU version and still nada!
Ah,. yes,.. I re-read,. and there he states “Three” – doH!
Ah yes, it’s popped up on XDA as well, and it is indeed H3G branded. I’ll hold off for now and install Wanamlite once it’s updated.
Sorry – forgot we’ve got others here. Yes, it’s a Three UK Galaxy S3 and bought through Three (ie not sim-only).
Couldn’t really believe it either when I got the OTA alert. Thought we were at least a month off.
I’ve not really had much of a chance to play with it though.
Having tried a couple of the leaked versions on mine, it’s a significant improvement over ICS. I liked it a lot, but the bugs started getting to me on the pre-release versions, so I reverted to ICS.
I’m unbranded and there’s nothing for me yet.
Come on, get a god damn move on.
I consider it karma payback. My last Three phone was a Nokia E71, and Three never ever updated it despite a dozen updates from Nokia and it being riddled with Three rubbish.
Just to annoy you all got my 3.1.2 notification this morning. (Galaxy Nexus) expecting my 3.2 notification in about 3 weeks.
That’s Honeycomb?
oops, replace 3 with 4 . God that’s embarrassing
Deduct two tech geek points from your account, Mr Jones.
I’m so ashamed. i should go install 3.1.2 as a punishment.
Haha I wonder if there are downgrade ROMs about for people who have a weird masochistic streak? FroYo on the SGS3 would be pretty painful.
Got 4.1.2 on my Xoom last week, it doesn’t make much difference
got my S3 LTE last week, already on 4.1.1 when I got it.. love it.

Yeah, it’s about goddam time, really. For one, the GS3 should’ve shipped with Jelly Bean, and for another, seriously, would it kill Samsung’s entire business if we had the choice of vanilla Android if we really, really wanted it ?
That would be a neat trick, seeing as the GS3 was released two months before Jellybean.
Must be thinking of ICS. I thought it was out earlier than that. Either way, the GS3 is a flagship device, and the stupid way 4.1 has been trickling out is ridiculous. It should’ve been out more than a month ago.
Got the 4.1.1 update today on 3 Network SGS3. Woop!
