Venus, the incredible luxury yacht Steve Jobs had been designing up until his death a little over a year ago, seems to have made its first apperance as a finished product in the city of Aalsmeer in the Netherlands. Unsurprisingly, its design is breathtaking.
Reportedly designed in a joint effort between Jobs himself and Philippe Starck, the stunning ship first showed up on the blog One More Thing, which posted some stills as well as a few other details. The ship is about 230 to 260 feet long, for instance, and made entirely of aluminum, which makes it particularly light. And if you had any doubt this is Steve Jobs’ yacht, there are seven 27-inch iMacs in the wheelhouse.
According to One More Thing’s sources, the Jobs family will be present for the yacht’s christening ceremony proper, thought it’s unknown whether or not they intend to use it, or what its ultimate fate may be. Sorry, are we looking at the same boat? Looks angular and boxy to me. yes the use of glass and chrome is nice but it looks like someone said “lets make the back look like an apple inspire Pizza Hut”.
You can’t see the back? But I agree that is a bit of a strange design.
Yeah, it’s horrific. Looks incredibly impractical too; the superstructure is super-boxy. Winds don’t like that much. And the hideous railing around the bow; it’s like someone’s patio has gone to sea.
I’m sure the interior is the last word in luxury, but outwardly, it’s deeply ugly.

Well, he knew what it would have looked like and what materials were being used. He was probably more miffed at not being able to finish his home or see the new campus in 2015.
Anyway, I’d like to see 1/10th scale versions of this yacht for us mere mortals.

God, it’s hideous – looks like something a Bond villain would have.

Got to be honest, I really don’t like the design. It is far too boxy for a yacht. It has a flat sheer line which never looks right. The lack of slope on the front of the cabin and wheelhouse also looks wrong. As does the perfectly vertical bow, although less so.

that is one seriously ugly boat. aside from breaking every engineering rule by having sharp, square corners it also looks about as sleek as a breeze block. Giorgio Armani’s boat looks so much better than this.
For a man who sold Iconic computer designs he sure knows how to make ugly boats, just so boxy.

Not sure about the chrome on the front or the slightly oriental style of the superstructure. but having said that, as with a car, you don’t spend most of your time looking at the outside. I wonder what it’s like inside?
Starck-Apple-y (Stappley?) I would think! Probably not hideous like the outside – I like Starck and Apple design in general.

Jesus! That is one ugly boat. I have a wedge of cheddar in my fridge with more aesthetic appeal. If anyone else had designed it, it would be judged as pretentious, self-conscious crap.

Take off your iGoggles ffs. It’s a hideous, ridiculous, uninspired monstrosity. No wonder Apple see Jony Ive as so important to Apple’s success if this is what Jobs comes up when given the pen.
Chrome strip on the front? That’s one of the tackiest, nastiest pieces of design I’ve ever seen.
