Truckers of the world! No matter how many times you try it, no matter how much you duck inside your cabin as get through it, no matter how strongly you believe the warning signs don’t apply to you, your vehicle is never going to be able to survive an encounter with Durham’s 11-foot 8-inch tall bridge.
This satisfying video is proof of it.
According to 11foot8.com, this train trestle is 100 years old, so it was built at a time “when there were no standards for minimum clearance.” They are not raising it because the Norfolk Southern Railroad doesn’t care: it’s their bridge and the only thing they want is to guarantee the safety of their trains. “As far as they are concerned, they solved that problem by installing the crash beam,” 11foot8 says. Any potential solution—like raising the bridge or lowering the road—is too expensive to be worth it.
The city of Durham installed warning sings along the three blocks that precede the bridge, but the imbeciles still keep ramming into it once every month on average. Oh well, thanks for the show, stupid! [11foot8 via Prochan via Roger Ebert]

Best bit with the two trucks with hay bales. The first one goes under and sprays hay everywhere, the second watches and then goes under anyway!
Why isn’t there a knock-bar 30 yds up the road that warns people about the low bridgw without totalling the vehicles?
There’s no health and safety in America.
“The city of Durham installed warning sings along the three blocks that precede the bridge” so they put signs leading up to it, a sign next to it and s big sign that flashes at you if your too big to fit under it, i dont think there is much more that CAN be done.
Because if there was a knock bar it would kind of invalidate a bit of darwinian justice. Stupid people who ignore that many road signs pretty much have it coming.
Lol!
So, can we have a poll as to what readers think the most common response was by each the driver as they felt the impact?
1. “Oh Sh*t!!!”
2. “Oh F*ck f*ck f*ck f****ck!!”
3. “Oh F*ck sh*t sh*t f*ck f*ck f****ck! sh*t!!!………………F*ck.”
4. “Bummer.”
5. “Oh pink fluffy ponies in heaven, may the Lord have mercy on my flawed decision making.”
6. Other…
“by each driver”
F*ck!!! no edit button!
If anything most of them look as if they’ll fit under the bridge with maybe half a foot of space. The crash beam definitely looks like it’s installed a lot lower.
f**k. woulda thought they’d either raise the bridge or lower the road or something
