This week was a Microsoft bonanza. A new operating system and new hardware means new apps. So joining the best apps of the week roster is a new batch of titles meant for RT. Inside, you’ll find a lot of apps you know and love, all ready for your new Surface tablet.
Netflix: Obviously the main reason you need to download Netflix is because you need to review your favourite episodes of Arrested Development before the fourth season drops there in early 2013. Plus, you’re going to need something to keep you sane while riding out Hurricane Sandy. Free
Skype: Whether you’re calling your old college buddy in Korea or you’re video chatting with your mother across town, Skype is a good one to have. Plus, it’s integrated across the entire operating system, so it’s one of the essential RT titles. Free
Firefox: We’ve been over this—your grandma uses Internet Explorer. So you probably want an alternative browser. Firefox released the preview version of its browser at the beginning of October, and its been updating nightly since then, so Mozilla has already been improving on it for nearly a month and will continue to do so. Free
Sketchbook Express: You know what’s great about tablets? Drawing pictures, and not crumpling up a page and tossing it in the trash when you mess up. This is a professional-grade art app that lets you jot down all your doodles, no matter how good or bad they are. Free

Hands On With Microsoft Surface for Windows RT
Here's the First Look at Firefox for Windows 8
WSJ: Lenovo Working on Convertible Windows RT Tablet
I’m curious, who actually has a Windows RT device? I’m considering getting an Intel Surface next May perhaps.
I got one this Friday and I like it more than expected. I have an iPad 3 also and this is a very valuable alternative. Once the apps available will become richer is probably going to be my preferred tablet. My biggest complain is the lack of 3G/4G/LTE connection. I would keep watching how it evolves and if enough apps get develop I would definitely recommend getting one.
I upgraded to Windows 8 and it’s naff. The gestures which used to work on my samsung ultrabook, now don’t work. it takes longer to wake from sleep, and on two occasions in the last day, it has restarted whilst being asleep, and thrown up an error.
However the apps that I’ve downloaded so far seem pretty nice and polished. Very minimalistic. The lack of options when right clicking, or going to the right and selecting “settings” is pretty naff.
Bluetooth no longer ‘works’ It connects to my phone, but previous options of playing music etc through bluetooth are no longer available, and intel drivers are incompatible. WiFi keeps turning off when the restarts occur, and the only way to turn it back on is through the troubleshoot. Can’t manually do it.
Think I may actually try and revert back to windows 7 and send Microsoft a very crappy email.
Naffness.
The same with me. Battery was halved from 10 to 5 hours too.
Skype for RT is balls, I’m staying with normal.
Isn’t that all the apps available for Windows RT?
Skype worked great for about, oooooh, ONCE, before telling me I’ve linked my Skype account to something else and now I can’t use it without linking it and that it won’t link because it won’t tell me why.
I hope that gives you an understanding of just how fucking retarded Windows 8 can be at times.
I don’t understand why Firefox is in this list, it is x86/x64 only and will not work on Windows 8 RT
