Plans to break up and dissolve what’s left of retail chain Comet are progressing, with new reports claiming 41 branches are going to close by the end of November.
While the chain’s administrators work out what to do with the rest of the broken electronics retailer, 41 shops will close this month, and while some redundancies are inevitable, the current plan is to ship off as many staff as possible to local branches that are remaining open for the time being, delaying the suffering a little and keeping the bulk of the group open for the Christmas rush. they refused to give him a proper reference, simply stating his start and end date. this guy had worked there for 8 hours. what a bunch of arseholes!

That’s fairly common practice with big companies nowadays – a lot will only confirm that the subject of the refernce was employed between X & X. HR departments dont like store or office managers to complete references as they are not authorised to speak / act on behalf of the company.
that is BS though. you work for someone for 8 years and do a good job, so you deserve a decent reference though.
your line manager/director is the only person that really can give a reference about you. its not about the company, its about how well you work.
god i hate HR sometimes. usually menopausal bitches. at my last company they were the bitchiest dept. by far. and they didnt even do real work!

But it’s hardly surprising that they’re going under, I never had anything other that piss poor service in my local out dated Comet… it was too dull and depressing to even go in there!
