The console wars are hotting up as Christmas approaches, and if you’re in the market for a new Sony PlayStation 3, you probably won’t come across one that’s as cheap as this.
It’s the brand new 12GB PS3 Super Slim, and if you’re not into the idea of the forthcoming whizz-bang Nintendo Wii-U, this might well be what you’re after. It’s only £125 right now as well, so you could get it as a replacement for a knackered console, a spare one for another room, or just put it on top of your mantelpiece as a piece of modern sculpture. It’s YOUR life!

Sooooo Small!! From Mahussive in 2006 to this. Its crazy.
I remember seeing the PS2 slim for the first time online. My bullshit alarm was working overtime. Then I found out it was real and it was that slim and I had to self flagellate myself for 17 hours with rusty barbed wire.
The PS2 slim was very slim! unbelievably slim! Sony are crazy amazing at shrinking a product.
The price difference between the 500GB HDD and the 12GB SSD seems a bit fishy to me, why is the HDD so much more expensive? I guess it’s down to the manufacturer of the drives.
Buy the cheap one and switch out the hard drives.
I don’t think sony set a RRP in the UK for the new model, so it’s mostly been up to the retailers.
I’m not complaining, for the price of a 500gb PS3, you can get a 12gb model, a hard drive mounting bracket and a 1Tb hard drive.
Or get an SSD! 256GB for speedier transfer’s etc..
Saying that, does the PS3 take SSD?
It does, which helps with install/loading speeds and texture streaming on some games. But the relatively small sizes of SSDs make it less worthwhile than putting in a 7,200rpm 1Tb hdd

cool, looks to make a decent enough change on some games due to ram limitations on the PS3 (and Xbox), they use the HDD as a kind of ram thing, so using a SDD helps load textures quicker etc..
GTA IV should benefit from an SSD! no texture lag.
I like your style there!
I have an original launch day PS3 but the buggers just too noisy these days and i’ve a hand full of games but 3 fist fulls of Blu-Rays so i was thinking get a new PS3 trade in the old one but i doubt i’d get £50 for it now.
Since it’s already out of warranty, just open it up and give it a good clean. Mine went from sounding like an xbox360 to completely silent once I removed a few years worth of dust accumulation.
Good idea, i’d not thought of that.
You can get SSDs for 50p a terabyte. That’s like £6 for a 12GB one. A 500GB internal hard drive will set you back about £35…
50p a terabyte?! FUUUUUUUCK me
God I wish there was an edit button…
I just came all over my vagina
I have a non-working 60gb model and recently, literally a week ago, my 20gb 360 red ringed on me, i got both on launch day, the ps3 failed on me 3 times, the 360, none, it served me well for almost 7 years, would have been 7 on the 2nd december.
Because of this, i was faced with a dilema, i have a haul of games for both systems and i needed to make my mind up, at first i was thinking of getting the wii u, it looks pretty solid and the gamepad looks really interesting, but the thing is, no one has any idea what microsoft and sony are working on, buying a wii u now when i might want another console a year or two down the line seems like a waste of money, so i decided to wait and see what happens at e3 next year.
then i looked at the new ps3, and it is ugly, sony used to make some really good looking console hardware but now, barring the psvita, which looks like a rehashed psp, the ps3 looks terrible. the slim looked kind of like a doormat, and this looks like its made of corrugated cardboard.
so i came across that £150 360 deal, with halo 4, 12 months live and a 250gb 360. sold all of my ps3 games to a mate for £350, i had 72 games. and now i have £200 for nights out at the student union and some christmas gifts for family!
moral of the story, just buy one system.
and don’t procrastinate when doing coursework
I really want to buy the new Tomb Raider when it comes out (my birthday!), but at the moment I have no console and no gaming PC… but I know I won’t buy many other games after (possibly the new GTA?) … What to do…
i pre-ordered this particular game at hmV in oxford street, london, yesterday and was able to get a peak at the computer screen while the order was being processed, i was on the side of the tills so i was pretty much in the perfect place.
obviously this date may change but I Very Much think that this MIght just be the actual Intended day for release, as the release date fits in with the launch in sprIng.
I really need to do my coursework
Which game? Tomb Raider or GTA?
If it’s Tomb Raider, they’ve confirmed 5th March 13,
If it’s GTA, did the date say 05-04-2013?
If so, that’s what they’ve got on their website, and the last time I bought a CD with an estimated release date on they emailed me saying the item doesn’t exist anymore and I should look on eBay…
yeah it’s gtaV, the dude who gave me the pre-order said that the date was probably updated because he hadn’t seen it the last time he gave a pre-order.
at least it’s something though, not just ‘spring 2013′
