Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft’s eagerly awaited new Xbox console will arrive in time for next year’s holidays.
The news wire reports that “people familiar with the matter” claim that the console will be ready for Christmas sales in 2013. Speculation surrounds exactly when it will be officially announced, with the sources suggesting that Microsoft “hasn’t decided whether to unveil the new Xbox at an industry event such as the E3 show in June, or a separate event devoted solely to the machine”.
Hardware-wise, rumours suggest that the next Xbox looks set to be a bit of a beast, featuring four hardware cores, each divided into four logical cores, and 8GB of RAMto keep it chugging along. You might even find Blu-Ray, Kinect 2.0 and some jazzy AR glasses thrown into the mix, too. The holiday period of 2013 can’t come soon enough. [Bloomberg]

Really looking forward to this. I have had an Xbox 360 for ages without issue luckily. I was thinking of picking up a PS3 on eBay for the next year of game playing just to have experienced owning all three.
I think you should buy a ps3 if there are enough games on it exclusively that you want/need to play and you can’t get anywhere else. That is why it was my main console, and I bought a wii second hand recently due to there being a list of games I wanted to play on that. If the games appeal, get one, if not don’t.
Yeah I think I will, I’ve played a bit of heavy rain and love that sort of game. Plus my best mate has a PS3 so would be good to play online.
Yeah I was tempted by a PS3 myself, especially when I saw one on here under ‘Deal of the Day’ for £125. That’s a pretty decent price for a blu-ray player and media server alone! Shame I already have a blu-ray player and have plenty of 360 games to get through.
Anyway, hopefully the spec of the new Xbox will sufficiently future-proof it. I wish the spec of the console was insane at release and the price fairly reasonable, maybe even sold at a loss.
Consoles are destined to become the media hub of every home, and already are in a lot of ways with the amount of adverts and products shoved in your face.
I don’t understand why companies don’t try and get a powerful console in every home to establish a long-term user base, and then sell things to people using it. Companies get a huge market and sales, customers get a powerful console.
Consoles are already sold at a loss, except the Wii, and forthe kind of longevity you’re asking for, the launch price of a console would be somewhere around £600+
People were already averse to the high, £425 price of the PS3 and Sony were losing about £100 on every console.
£600 sounds fair, if the console remains powerful for 6-8 years.
Considering an iPhone costs £550, I’d consider an extremely powerful gaming machine / media hub a complete bargain.
