The sad news about the doomed financial status of electrical chain Comet has been confirmed, with the store announcing plans to call in the administrators next week. The chain’s web site is currently offline, while administrator Deloitte assembles some sort of closure and/or sale and salvage plan. [The Register]

6,000 Jobs at Risk as Comet Ponders Administration
Weathering the Jessops Administration
Game Over For GAME, As It Goes Into Administration
closing sales???
6,500 people who’ll lose their jobs… and your first response is selfish gain… Do you work in the city?
Nope, don’t work in the city, small town in Lancashire.
But like JJB, there was very good priced sale’s.
And damn it looks like most of the stock is going back to suppliers.
Exactly what I thought when I heard the news. But I think they have post-payment agreements with suppliers, so the suppliers will take it back.
Yea, tis a shame. But they diddent do anything different from PC wold/Currys/Dixon’s and in my personal thoughts, I thought that Coment’s where never really well place, not as well placed (location wise) as Currys/PC World.
Location, Location, Location…
Gutted for us that there will be no closing down sales.
Well, they were more focused on household appliances than straight tech. They got into tech a bit late in the game.
Looks like you’re in luck… Beeb rumours are Deloitte are considering sales…
Perhaps they’ll go down a online-only route like Woolworths did?
First Rumbelows and now this. When will it end?
wow i had forgotten all about them
its all our fault really, we go into shops fondle the goods then order them online, i like to fondle goods before i buy them, i have a fondling problem
anyway
the other problem is, its all to easy to buy your electrical items from asda or tescos when you are doing your shopping as well
it is sad that it is closing though,
Recently I had to buy a new microwave as someone in my family managed to kill the old one and I didn’t need to ‘fondle’ a replacement so I looked online at various retailers offerings.
Comet had a very poor range and were more expensive when comparing similar models in other stores and I ended up buying from Argos.
I won’t miss Comet but I regret more people being laid off.
You could always have gone and fondled an employee instead.
(this is not a guarantee)
Perhaps Comet should have gone the Hooters route, give people something to go in for.
