Must be an uncomfortable moment over at Samsung headquarters right now. Just weeks after mobile division head J.K. Shin talked some seriously big game, a court in the Netherlands granted one more point to Apple in the companies’ ongoing patent lawsuits.
Specifically, the judges banned any “Galaxy products that infringe on an patent describing a way to scroll through a photo gallery using a touchscreen.” So any of the offending devices running Android 2.2.1 or higher that doesn’t “use Samsung’s proprietary photo gallery software” is now officially Dutch contraband. And every day that Samsung refuses to comply with the ban, they’ll have to pay Apple €100,000 as recompense.
And the incessant patent war drones on. [Ubergizmo]

Oh God….
Forgets to mention they have 8 weeks before the £80k charge begins. Maybe some more time if there’s any appeals?
I thought that was the case but couldn’t find the site I saw it on.
How can you patent the way to scroll through photos? Surely you can only do it one way, swiping with your finger :\
It’s to do with seeing the next photo whilst scrolling past the current one. Rather than seeing each ondividually I believe.
Still a ludicrous patent. For God’s sake, patent law needs to be rapidly revisited and tidied up so we can’t be in this crazy state of affairs. Frankly it seems Apple are behaving very badly and I hope it catches up to them. I also think it will, because Android is increasingly prevalent, and Samsung and Google are catching up with devices… When they do crumble, it’ll be justice.
So basically it is a preview of the next and previous? Like I’m pretty sure Apple didn’t invent previews lol.
It’s totally bollocks, and the idea that Apple invented this concept offends me.
Being the first to sell a million phones with a feature is not the same as inventing a feature.
Fuck off and die Apple.
Unfortunately inventing something and patenting something are completely different. It’s happened a few times, I can’t remember exactly but was it the radio or the lightbulb or something?
It still sucks though
Just FYI, a patent doesn’t mean you invented it.
Serves Samsung right for using a shit o/s thats stolen most of its ideas from competitors.
Suck it.
Flame on!
