The official EE account tweeted out, and then immediately removed said tweet, that EE customers were going to be able to grab free Wi-Fi on the London Underground in 2013, presumably using Virgin’s tube station network. Looks like the free surfing’s going to continue, if you’re luckily on the right phone network that is.
Update: Virgin’s been in contact to officially announce it’s new plans, including Vodafone, EE and PAYG Wi-Fi.

Nothing mysterious about this, obviously someone released the info too soon. Will be interested if it means only those on 4G or people of what was T-Mobile/Orange 3G that recently got rebranded.
I would imagine all customers given that Virgin Mobile currently uses the EE 3G network for their customers and VM customers get free wifi.
I’d be inclined to agree. VM also provide all the backhaul for EE’s networks.
IIRC only those on the 4G tariffs are EE customers. Although the carrier display name changed for everyone, others are still customers of Orange or T-Mobile.
Oddly enough, while I was on my GNex they changed it to EE as you say, but when I switched the sim into my N4 it shows as T-Mobile again.
They’re whole branding is a right mess, especially for non-techies. The number of tweets I’ve seen about people demanding their orange back, hilarious.
Even more so when they are complaining that the network is worse when it is actually exactly the same.
