The previously trailed fire sale of Comet’s lovely ranges of fridges, TVs and iPod docks has begun, with the chain now selling off its stock on the cheap today. And look, they have invoked the black and yellow colour scheme. This is going to be huge.
However, it will require some legwork. The sale is offering its discounted stock in-store only, so you’ll have to go down there and battle with other men for the cheap stuff. In fact, the good items have probably all gone and have already been listed on eBay for a quick 10 per cent profit, but you never know.
Let us know if you bag anything good. Photos of the carnage and scenes of grown men fighting over a rubbish clock radio gratefully received. [Comet -- Thanks Ashok]

I’m not going because I honestly can’t think of anything we need or want so going would just be consumerism for the sake of it.
You say that like it’s a bad thing
I know, what is wrong with me!
I’d love to go so I can stock up on cheaper Christmas gifts.
I’d rather not go and put all my money on the prices still being crap.
Any takers?
I need a new vacuum cleaner, but due to the sale being apparently in-store only, I have no way of buying one from Comet. What a pain.
Dyson Another Day…
Couple guys went from work at 9:00 this morning, apparently it was rubbish – only had 10% off everything.
I’m guessing the pricing will get more aggressive as the days go on and the stock depletes though.
Can confirm this – according to HotUKDeals it’s only 10% off. Pointless.
A friend phoned me from Comet giving me prices of some 46″/55″ TVs I had been considering. A quick check on the internet whilst he was on the phone and, as I suspected might be the case, Comet were really no cheaper with one exception being a 46″ Samsung 8000 series at about £100 less than I could find elsewhere.
I was hoping for a bargain on a 55″ set personally.
Sounds exactly like what Besy Buy was like when that went under. Problem is, after a few days the really good stuff is gone and you’re just left with cheap JLS DVDs and obsolete electronics
I thought we all knew yesterday that it would only be 10% off?
Woo! A bunch of stuff which will break in 2 years and then no warranty!
Even that is preferable to a Comet warranty.
I went to two stores today. Can confirm it’s 10% on tv’s. But one staff member told a customer (seemed like they knew each other) that it’s likely be 20% tomorrow and 30% at the weekend. The manager has ability to further discount on display models if it’s the last one in stock.
I was waiting outside the doors at 9AM this morning… Ranging from 10% off on tablets/expensive items, to 30% off for the cheaper stuff – ink cartridges etc. Very over-rated; though I did get an iPad Mini for £240. Some discount is better than no discount, especially with Apple products!
Goddammit Comet, you just HAD to go bankrupt while I’m in Japan for a YEAR, didn’t you?!
I picked up a new TV, got it £150 cheaper than the nearest competitor. Not too bad. Great quality too. I wouldn’t have got this TV if I’d waited as they would have sold it. There were 3 other people on their phones to their partners about the TV I got, and this was the last one in the shop. It’s a good thing I don’t have anyone to get permission from.
I got me a big assed new oven.
20% off, probably could have got it the same elsewhere if I’d shopped around or waited for the sales.
I also have guilt over picking the bones out of a their still warm carcass.
A big assed new oven? Do you cook substantial buns in it?
Sorry.
I feel the same about these sort of sales – want to go for any bargains, miffed that I can’t get near a Comet until at least Sunday, but feel sorry for anyone losing their jobs.
Longfellow?
You looking to buy yourself a wee Suzuki by any chance?
No, not really my style!
It’s just someone called Longfellow has just joined my motorbike forum looking to buy a bike – he said his handle was a throwback to a techy site he used to post on – I put 2 & 2 together & made 5
I see, I was thinking small Suzuki car – if I had such a thing my head would stick out the sunroof, hence the name
It’s also the pen-name I use on my blog.
went this morning, maximum its 30% off but sits rare and rest are like 10%. Nothing really worth buying.
Might pop in and make an offer for their display shelving…
10% discount. I wouldn’t bother with the excitement of the article author!
When they start selling stuff with more then 10/20% off ill consider it a firesale
Picked up a display dishwasher for 30% off, worked out £100 cheaper than anywhere online.
I got a heads up from a friend who worked for comet and got an ex display macbook pro 13″, 2.9ghz half price, ie. £625.
