I don’t really like Android’s SMS at all. (I’m on HTC’s Sense-flavored Jellybean, btw.) In particular, the lock-screen notifications really bug me—there’s no way to see if you’ve gotten more than one message. And group messages don’t really work right. Got one you like?

I don’t mind the standard one, but I’ve used Pansi SMS when I was on Sense, and Handcent. Both were only marginally better than standard, and now the new ICS/Jellybean messaging is out, I tend to stick with that. Mightytext for sending texts from my computer though. Messaging apps for Android tend to be a bit rubbish – they look a bit cheap and over-customisable.
I tried Handcent but didn’t really like it, then after a few suggestions I tried Go SMS Pro. And havn’t looked back since! I do agree, the standard SMS Android app is pretty pathetic. Glad you can change it though compared to certain iOS products
.
Oh and forgot to add. I use MightyText when i’m at work on my PC. Really handy app and works amazing.
I’m currently using Samsung’s default SMS app but I’ve used Handcent and it’s great
When I first started with Android I used Handcent SMS. After a few months, whenever I’d restart my phone, everyone I’d sent a text to would re-receive the last text I sent them.
Anyway, I now use Go SMS Pro.
Go SMS Pro gets my vote
Handcent SMS for me
+1 for Handcent
Another +1. Used it on my last 3 android phones and can set it up just right. Don’t bother with the handcent services though.
I’ve been rocking Messaging 7 as I dig the Windows Phone look which has been good enough. Another vote for Mightytext for when at work or on the computer though.
I use Samsungs Touchwiz and really like it, much better than default Android as Samsung have added so much more functionality. HTC Sense is shit though…
I just use the standard sms via sense on my HTC, it sends texts and picture messages, I don’t need it to do more than that, so even the most basic text program is good enough for me
I use the default for sms, but my preference is whatsapp anyone in the world can get free text message, photos, emojis, videos. If the person has a smart phone there is no reason to use normal sms in my opinion.
I’m the same. I use whatsapp almost exclusively for messaging. The only people who send me actual SMSes are dodgy personal injury claim firms, or my missus on the rare occasion whatsapp is slow
I do love whatsapp for sending pictures, but since it requires a constant data connection to work I stick to normal SMS. I like being able to get my messages in weak signal areas, and I usually keep my data connection off to preserve battery life while in those areas.
How about mySMS? Been using that since I got a Galaxy S3.
Being able to text from any PC is really handy.
I use the default Touchwiz one. I find it cleaner and easier to use than any of the alternatives.
And +1 for Mightytext, although I also like using Airdroid.
I use Sony’s stock gingerbread one, but for 3rd party I’ve used Go SMS before and liked it, it’s what I put on my mum’s phone for her to use.
GoSMS Pro, despite the annoying ads at times, and the subtle permission creep.
However Remote Web Desktop when I’m at work, connecting work laptop to the phone using the tethering.
Standard Jellybean messaging app for me, on vanilla O/S. It works pretty well in my opinion.
Go SMS Pro gets my vote. Also, what is the point of the animated gif above, since it appears to show Google Now rather than an sms app?
It’s symbolic. The SMS will travel through the air from one place to another, very much like an aeroplane would.
+1 Handcent
I use GO SMS and mighty text on laptop.
