The beta version of iOS 6.1 is out, which means the real deal will be yours for the downloading, soon-ish. Get a load of all the kinda-minor updates you’ll be enjoying and/or freaking out over, right now.
Let’s break ‘er down. You can now buy movie tickets through Siri. Ask about a movie, if it’s showing in a nearby theatre your phone will show you that, and then theatres with a little ticket icon listed beside them will launch you into the Fandango app. Buy your tickets.
Siri, unfortunately, still requires that you talk to her like she’s a half-deaf child, and she often responds like one, too. Beta, beta, beta.
Apple Maps, lightning rod of vanishing restaurants and whining, now includes an option to report any problems you’re having with the service. On the one hand, this is nice, in that maybe it’ll help Apple get its shit together. On the other hand—Apple, are you fucking kidding? Fix your own maps for the devices we paid hundreds of dollars for. We’re not your beta testers.
Finally, the icons on the lock screen’s music controls have been spaced out, and are certainly more comfortable to use. The little virtual reflection effect has been added to the volume slider, too.
The revolution is now. We’ll let you know as soon as iOS 6.1 is official and open to the public.

Siri can’t find ‘theatres’ in the UK anyway, at least not in my experience. pretty bad considering there are only like 4 companies that run 99% of the cinemas in the UK anyway.
Mine can. Finds the closest VUE / Odeon cinemas, and asks me if i would like directions or call the theater.

My partner is an audiologist who has a lot of young patients as well as adults, and you can sometimes weep for humanity about the stories she comes home with.
He is NOT implying Siri is stupid, he is implying that you have to talk to her slowly and loudly so that Siri can pick up what you are saying. You’ve absolutely missed the mark here.

But from experience those children will have hearing aids making what the talking loudly and slowly pointless as their hearing will be boosted enough to hear normally.
As someone who is deaf I can confirm it had no impact on me whatsoever. Chill.

I agree with you I think society needs to reacquaint its self with the word offensive, it seems some people don’t give a shit about other more vulnerable people being attacked as long as they’re having a good time, and others use offence like a stick to get what they want.
I find it quite a disturbing trend that some people who profess to be liberal are quite happy to encourage degrading and aggressive attitudes to the weaker members of our society under the banner of free speech. whilst happily contradicting them selves when the word offensive can be used to attack someone they don’t like. or to side with those they perceive to be more powerful or threatening.

This whole argument has fallen on deaf ears since biddle won’t see any of these comments.
Maps have always had a link to report problems. All they’ve done in this update is make the button more prominent.
Fix their own maps? Short of sending employees around the globe to check all map data and POI’s, users reporting problems is the fastest and easiest way to fix problems!
Not to mention that one of the reasons Google maps is so good is because it has users report bugs and glitches.
Surely Mr Biddle knows this?
Sounds like another crap update. I miss 5.1 and wish Apple would make it easier to roll back to a earlier version.
I’m reticent to update these days as last time i had to reset to factory settings twice in the process, the first time also reset my backup so i had to sort it all out from scratch. I’m on a 4 so Siri can suck my balls and Apple maps is a Joke, i wont be using it whether theres a report error button or not.
Now, iOS 7, give me some of that juice! With our boy Jon at the helm it has promise beyond imagination, I just hope he gets to give it a complete overhaul and not just a cosmetic scrub.

I’m still on 5.1 on my iPhone. “Upgraded” the iPad to 6 on day 1 and by glad I didn’t do my phone first. I won’t be upgrading till google have a new maps app.

Nope, feels exactly the same, but it is a little, tiny bit of a darker shade, than the white home button.
Hardly noticeable shade of gray.
other than that, perfect! very clear screen! and would use them again for another service.
You can do it cheaper if you are not the squeamish type as it’s fairly simple, otherwise company above is pretty good.
Just make sure to backup and wipe your phone data before sending just to be on the safe side.
