Hitstagram is an exciting new way to add a layer of old school authenticity to your cold, modern digital music, with the forthcoming iOS and Android app generating convincing retro audio filters to soften today’s harsh recordings.
The app currently features four audio filters to try. A nice, scratchy vinyl effect, a wobbly, hissy cassette tape filter that recreates the distortion of failing batteries, plus a crackly boombox and an as yet unknown CD filter option. More audio editing tools are said to be coming soon.
We think it’s just a joke. We think. [Hitstagram]

How to Digitise Your Vinyl Collection
Just as I think people can’t get anymore hipster…
I don’t know what I find more depressing, that this even exists or that it’ll probably be a hit
Surely you mean it’ll probably be a hit-stagram
Pretty sure it’s a joke – did you know the website lets you trial all 4 effects? The ‘as of yet unknown’ CD option plays like normal stereo quality but starts to skip just like a CD.
why…… WHYYYYYYYYYY
Many feel a small level of dissonance adds a warm interest and tension to music, why people yet that buzz off hearing vinyl roll into a song. I add discord before I master. I know of others that add it before they start production as they don’t like the empty sound of a digital music set up and fill it with subtle warped white noises. One of the best tips I’ve ever came across was to add a very small distortion to cymbals to make them sparkle.
PS. It is often the main reason why people say modern mixes sound dead, the mix is too perfect.
PPS. Also the reason people spend big money on analog synths from the 70′s – and why the trend for new analog synths and analog vst emulation is big – we have more perfect technologies for making, modulating and warping frequencies but it just doesn’t sound better.
must be a joke. i like it how the sample tune is already heavily filtered!
