These days, pit stops can make or brake a race. Hell, four wheels, some minor wing adjustments, and even a steering wheel change, can all be completed in under three seconds. But that’s only possible using the latest tech, materials, and some serious organisation. Here’s a sneak peak into what happens in that crucial three seconds.
Despite all that training and tech, sometimes that wheel nut just damn well sticks, but considering everything has to be lighter with less materials each time, it’s not really surprising. Still, it’s impressive just how much goes into the modern, lightning-fast pit stop. It truly gives you a new appreciation for that small army of men rushing out into the pit box every race. So your process engineer would leave you with a load of endless loops of ‘switch lightbulb three times’ between taking the wheel off and filling the petrol tank.
