Probebly because it’s a Phone and not the number 1 computer OS used for businesses and personal use with 90+% of the market.

Apple might or might not allow Google Maps onto the App Store.

This one guy thinks they will allow it, this other guy thinks they wont allow it. FIGHT!!!

yeah i agree but if microsoft gets done for IE in windows then why shouldnt apple get done for apple maps and safari?

There is really no reason why it would not be approved and there are enough other examples to show that in all likelihood it would be.

I have no problem with heavily-integrated apps, but if Apple block a Google Maps app they’ll risk an anti-competition lawsuit, and they’ll lose customers, myself included.

This is journalism at it’s very best, the summary is startling if true – as shocking as it might sound the reality is that iOS might or might not get a Google maps app – and regardless of our personal biases we are just going to have to live with the consequences.

Has anyone contacted Columbia University/Pulitzer yet, they need to read this.

I’ve had used find my iPhone twice, once in the summer when my phone had slipped between the seats of my car, and last week after leaving my phone on the table in cafe under our office at work…

1st time – Using Google Maps it showed exactly which part of the car relative to it’s parking space my phone was located.

2nd time – Displayed my phone as being about ~750m away from where it actually was, in the wrong direction with Apple Maps when in fact it was the same distance away as when it’d been in the car.

Fail.

Am not sure,
but i don’t actually see a problem with a company integrating their own products, into their own products, and dont understand why its such a bad thing.
if you like Apple microsoft android etc.. then you expect integration, there are always going to be certain bits we don’t like, but ho hum thats life.

i think the fact apple maps are integrated into IOS so all the other apps rely on it, is their foothold.

whereas google maps will be stand alone.

so although they may lose a bit, overall i don’t think they are too worried.

Apple has backed itself into a bit of a corner here. Either they allow Google Maps into the App Store (in which case everyone stops using Apple Maps and their big investment goes up in smoke) or they block it and appear vindictive and inconsistent (since Chrome is permitted and does pretty much the same job as Safari).
