John McAfee, the antivirus software kingpin who’s wanted for murder but claims he’s innocent, is on the run from the police in Belize right now. If he gets caught, he thinks he’ll be killed. Even with those dangerous stakes, McAfee talked to Wired to describe the past two days on the lam. The audio of the interview is below and it’s as insane as you’d expect it to be.
Right now he’s hiding under cars and sleeping on a mattress infested with lice in a secret house in Belize. McAfee think that “it’s just a matter of time” for the police to track him down. Listen below.

I bought a pair of Sennheiser Adidas PMX 680i headphones for running on the recommendation of Wirecutter. So last night I’m on a hill climb, 2 miles in and Mrs Guppy phones me on the run. I didn’t even know they had an in-built mic. She wanted my Apple ID so she could sign into iCloud and find out where I was, I think she thinks I’m going to have a heart attack and be lying in the gutter somewhere in the Fife wilderness. Either that, or it was because she was hungry and doesn’t know how to cook anything.
True story.
“I think she thinks…”
I see what you did there.
No disrespect intended, I don’t know the limits and boundaries you have, but I believe we devised the phrase ‘fuck off’ for such moments – can’t she stalk you in the car the good old fashioned way?
I once came home to be questioned about my emails. She had booted my workstation, opened browser (password saved to Google), and read my Gmail – I couldn’t get this out my head and ended the relationship sometime later. I just though that we build a relationship on trust and we have no foundation to build on here. And my emails were beyond reproach, she was paranoid of friendly emails from old uni friends.
Nail on the head there, fuck off was pretty much what I shouted, although I had to say it a few times as I was breathless and it was a poor signal.
The old lady ahead of me crossed the road.
I hope somebody kills him very soon, if only for the crap software he was responsible for…
harsh.. Don’t think poor software is a reason for ending someones life. At least he has done something with his life that is notable. As for the murder thing. It’s a case of innocent until proven guilty, which sadly is not the case in most south american countries. A government that is controlled by deception and bribery. Imagine if you were stuck in such a position (irrespective of his guilt) with nowhere to turn to that is safe. No one with any power to help you. You face death and nothingness.
Personally I think Mr .com should fly over in his helicopter and rescue that guy. The justice system has failed him and the country for that matter. Even if he is guilty..
