John McAfee may still be on the run from authorities in Belize — despite claiming that he is innocent in the murder of his neighbour, Gregory Faull — but he still has enough free time to post to a private message board asking for information about how phone tracking works.
At just before 10PM last night, McAfee posted this message using his “stuffmonger” alias:
How long does it take for a phone company to triangulate a cell phone signal? With what accuracy? Is there any way to confuse/delay the system? If a cell phone is turned off, but the battery is installed, is there any way to locate the phone? Are there any brands of phones are more/less difficult to triangulate ?
Answers ranged from useful to speculative, but one poster’s response might have summed it up best: “Well this is awkward…”
McAfee is currently wanted for questioning by Belizean authorities, although no charges have yet been filed. McAfee contends he would be framed or murdered if he were in custody. The Prime Minister of Belize yesterday called McAfee “bonkers.”

Google emailed me this evening telling me my Nexus 4 will ship within 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Despite 2 phonecalls confirming my order would be dispatched yesterday or today!!!!!!
3 BLOODY WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spitting mad, Google customer services no help!!!!!!!!!!
While I share your outrage and am very dissapointed that more stock won’t arrive for three weeks. Its not at all relevant to the post other than the fact that the lives of googles sales team may be in danger if we all have to wait another three weeks to participate in the nexus crapshoot.
Really you are saying the same crap in loads of threads. We get it your angry but off the subject much?
And I’m sure they are doing what they can but its a brilliant phone for pennies you didn’t think it was going to sell out fast?
Emails are automated. the phone calls are pretty much telling you the facts, they don’t have time to hand type all emails to every customer.
Two phonecalls and order confirmation email all confirmed order placed and phone being dispatched imminently in first wave.
Then 3 week email last night with weak-ass confirmation by customer services on phone parroting what the letter said and apologising for 2 earlier confirmation phonecalls.
Chill Julian, you’ll get it soon enough.
I know how you feel …we all do but there’s nothing you can do about it so have a cup of tea and a chocolate hob-nob, take a walk and take in the wonder of mother nature. Life moves so fast sometimes its good to sit back, take yourself out of the race and take that time you took to sit back and take yourself out the aforementioned race to have a delicious cup of tea.
I reckon Julian has invented a creative spam bot that posts a different version of his rage on every single article.
Btw, shouldn’t you be spamming Google+ instead?
No bot involved, just me venting and I don’t use any Google+ or Facebook etc
John McAfee is wanted by the police on murder charges. If they catch him they estimate the trial could last 30 days
But having McAfee on trial could slow down their whole legal system to a crawl!
Doesn’t this guy watch movies? Always take out the battery and throw the phone away once you are done. Get a lot of disposable phones and use a new sim card every single time.
P.S. Someone go patent his life story. It’s going to make a great Hollywood movie.
Im not sure you can patent a life story HAHAHA. Your right it will make an excellent movie, played by Brad Pitt he will be chased by a Belizian drug lord (played by Javier Bardem) whos computer is infected with virus even though he installed McAfee anti virus topling his drug empire and losing his beautiful wife played by Eva Mendes
