Who’d have thought it eh? The Queen is a tablet user, or is just about to become one. She’s getting a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 complete with 60 hand-picked entries from the ‘Diamond (re)Collection,’ which recounts the Queen’s 60 years on the throne. Maybe the Queen likes a good old stylus?
The Diamond (re)Collection will eventually consist of a complete library of 80,000 entries from Royalists the world over, and will remain publicly accessible online ‘in perpetuity,’ apparently. Some 37,000 people submitted entries via an app or the website, with highlights being from Oscar Pistorius, aka Blade Runner, and Prince Harry himself — something tells me his, errr, naked snaps won’t make the cut.
Somehow I doubt the Queen will use the tablet for much more than just pressing play on a couple of videos, possibly a few runs of Gangnam-style, but it’s great to see technology penetrates all ages, even if it is just the Royals. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has officially made it into the ‘Royal Collection’ and will be stored at Windsor Castle — quite a coup for Samsung, given the iPad’s perceived dominance. [BBC]

If Apple had supplied an iPad they could have got a Royal warrant of appointment after a few years. Samsung has got one already which means they can add the crest on their packaging – it might be why they could get the tablet into the Royal hands and therefore some handy (relatively free) advertising.
Not sure if we can look at this as Apple missing out or Apple not giving a rat’s arse about Publicity via the Royal Family.
They have Sir Jonathan Ive, remember? Or could we look at this, like kieron77 said as Samsung plugging their tablet for some Royal Advertising because sales are dwindling?
Just seems rather an odd choice, given the Queen’s unlikely to use that stylus for just watching videos.
What do you think her most pertinent reason is for using a stylus? Poking the poor? No wait, that’s Cameron’s job.
This will handily solve those trade dress issues that Apple were complaining about since Samsung’s boxes will have the royal warrant and Apples won’t.
They are using the Galaxy Tablets on X Factor too (Wife watches, I’m forced to watch, honest). It does seem like the new Galaxy Note tablet is starting to get some traction.
Maybe Apple will try to coax some other royal family’s sigil and assent in order to further publicise their already well-publicised selves.
The Royal Family aren’t ‘cool’, which is why Samsung have it.
They are too cool!
Seems more of a advertisement for Samsung and in return they’ll give us a good price on their trade lol.
