The modernisation of the Church of England continues, with the new Archbishop of Canterbury being announced via the very modern medium of Twitter. By David Cameron on his little iPad app, no less.
Cameron’s PM account revealed that The Right Reverend Justin Welby will soon become the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury this morning. Welby used his press conference to say he’s in favour of ordaining women bishops, although he doesn’t appear to be forward-thinking enough to have registered an individual Twitter account for himself as yet.
Welby puts on the special hat to begin Archbishop duties next March. It’s a pretty swift promotion for the former oil executive, who was only made Bishop of Durham last year. At this rate he’ll be God by 2018. [Twitter]

Archbishop of Canterbury, what does it do?
