The Nexus 10 is pretty pretty, but what do it’s innards look like? Powerbook Medic found out when they vivisected one of the impressive new £319 tabs, and laid out its guts for all of us to see.
Unlike the Nexus 4′s secret LTE modem, the Nexus 10 doesn’t seem to pack any real secrets. It turns out that it is a Samsung joint however, from assembly to processor to battery. Also it’s a breeze to take a part; no glue or nothin’. Hop over to Powerbook Medic to see the rest of the gory details. [Powerbook Medic via Engadget]

Notes From the Frontline: Crossing Over to the Other Side
You Don't See Two Supercarriers Side-By-Side Every Day
what i find odd, is when you see a phone tear-down, you think wow how do they fit all that in there, there is so much of it, but after seeing this, there really isn’t that much to modern devices, even i would be happy tearing open my nexus 10 after watching this.
i did tear open my htc sensation once to replace the earpiece speaker after dropping my phone yet again
(i have never opened my tech before) talk about fiddly.
anyway after watching the video on youtube i was confident, the thing i underestimated mostly was how tiny those little cable connectors are.
so i tore it down rather nervously and then reassembled it, job complete and the moment of truth, i turned on the phone,it was working yay, But the touchscreen wasn’t Boo
so teardown again only to find the tiniest ribbon from the touchscreen hadn’t been connected properly (it was hard to tell)
all i can say was that i bought a complete set of gadget strip down tools off ebay (about £10) and thankfully there were enough prodders, pokers, wedgers and holders in there to get the job done, i don’t think i would have managed with the basic kits the sell on ebay.
That’s one big chunka black pastic.
I assume that’s a subtle stab at the use of plastics in modern devices?
I for one never understand the bad rep plastics seem to get.
Not all plastics are the same.
Granted, but I am yet to come across terrible plastics used on devices the I’ve owned. I much prefer robust polymers over metals anyway; the iPad is either too cold or too hot to hold (IMO), and glass just cracks! The only real issue with plastics is manufacturing tolerances, creaking cases can be a problem. Then again thin metal casing can suffer similar shortfalls.
Let’s be honest, many people will put a protective cover on their devices anyway (likely plastic), so the aesthetic appeal of metals is negligible.
I’m lucky enough to now know a single person that’s covered their tablet or smartphone with a rubbery skin or concealing cover.
“the aesthetic appeal of metals is negligible”
I couldn’t disagree more.
I didn’t mean the aesthetic appeal is negligible full stop, I meant it’s negligible when folk wrap it up in a case.
