It looks like Nintendo’s broken with tradition and released a Pokemon app for the iPad and iPhone. It’s only available in Japan, but it marks the first game-type release from Nintendo on tablets or phones. Does this mean it’s going to ‘pull a Sega’ and release games for iOS and Android? Here’s bloody well hoping so. Which Nintendo game would you like to see on your phone? [Pokemon via Kotaku]

If Nintendo Made a Mario Game For the iPhone and Android, Would You Buy It?
A Nintendo Wii U Is Your 'Mario In Eye-Bleeding Detail' Deal of the Day
What Nintedo game would I like to see on iOS/Android?
NONE! Nintendo games have always been precision controlled and designed to take advantage on Nintendo hardware, even attempting to put a game out on a ecosystem as unstable as iOS/Android would be disastrous. Nintendo know that also and that’s why they would never go down that path.
Really? Not even something as simple as Super Mario Bros? It works fine on emulators.
All the emulators I’ve been using work just fine.
That’s not true. There are many platformers on iOS, that work perfectly fine. Lep’s World, Pizza Boy, that Paper game.. And Sega All Stars Racing works fine, too. There in nothing imprecise about the controls, I’d say it’s more a case of having to adapt to the absence of tactile feedback. No idea why they wouldn’t port Mario over.. I’m pretty sure someone at Nintendo confirmed that New Super Mario Bros. 2 was attempting to compete with the Mobile market, by making the levels shorter, so players could complete a world per train/bus journey. Not only that, it makes statistical sense – I remember one year, iOS gaming sales drawfed the PSP and Nintendo 3DS sales combined, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re still leading that.
Okay, I don’t believe it would be a full Mario game, as they’d still want players to carry around THEIR mobile console, as apposed to their phone.
I’d like to live in a world where I’m not having to carry TWO very expensive devices with me. So, bring on the iOS Bros. I’d rather have a slightly watered down experience than none at all.
Yet the 3DS is hardly as expensive as an iOS device (the total cost of my Lumia 800 and 3DS is less than that of the iPhone 4S) while still bestowing the advantage of a bigger screen, better input and not positing a drain on your phones battery life.
No
P.S, what Nintendo game WOULDN’T I like to see on my phone, is the question.
Okay, well, Mario Karts a must, I cannot think of a better game to pass the time with, and just enjoy. Some form of Super Mario Bros.. And, y’know what, Pokemon! Each of these games would be fantastic multiplayer, which I personally believe would be a merit for the iOS ports. Would Bluetooth multiplayer be more stable than the Nintendo 3DS near-wirless thingy? Not sure. Either way — You’re more likely to see people walking around with their phones in their pockets, rather than their Nintendo’s. Which is why I believe this deserves to happen.
Pokemon Black, all DS games really – with better graphics.
Hopefully this marks the start of an acknowledgement from Nintendo that they have to adapt to survive.
“It’s only available in Japan, but it marks the first game-type release from Nintendo on tablets or phones”
Except it’s not even close to a game, it’s an overpriced Pokedex.
They released a Pokémon app (game) in Japan in July last year, so it’s not “the first game-type release from Nintendo on tablets or phones”. That said Pokémon Say Tap isn’t available any more, but still. I’m also pretty sure Nintendo have said that they’re never going to release a full-no Pokémon game on a phone/tablet.
full-on*
No games from Nintendo please. Though I enjoyed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 with touch screen controls, it would have been considerably more enjoyable with the 3DS slide pad and buttons.
