“You’re a writer? Neat! Wait, on the internet? But that isn’t really a job, right?” Weirdly it still seems like, at least some of the time, people think careers tied up with the internet aren’t real.
The Oatmeal has a very long, and very good, comic about how making a living online—from drawing cartoons to making movies—and it’s simultaneously damn funny and upsettingly accurate. Go read it. [The Oatmeal]

People read more online than paper! For those who still stuck in time capsule perhaps have these sort of backward mentality, everything is getting online, and would up turning into a skynet. That’s a different topic though..
I’ve worked producing websites for some high profile companies and also taken much stick for that, but I stopped doing websites because I found the whole experience lacking. I find personally it is the nature of things on the net and how it is judged that doesn’t sit well for myself when working creatively, it is too ethereal and transitory, often in support of the real thing and also dubious in nature.
It surprises me that a company could have a website redesigned and replaced many times over ten years and never change the logo and branding once. I find I haven’t got the will to work on something of the moment. You create a stunning piece of art and place it in a gallery and you will be remembered for generations, but create a stunning piece of art as a website and you’ll be lucky to get site of the day.
Sadly true Mark. I blogged for a while, but a lot of stigma attached to it, so never really told anyone IRL (as they say…do they still say that?
)
people take money seriously though. however u earn it
My god, no comment from Darrel? Get me my meds, stat!
Give it a few hours. He’ll be here
At 3am, you would think Darrel would be asleep like any other normal person. Kinda explains why you need meds. Insomniac maybe?
What if you’re a network administrator? People take you pretty damn seriously then
