If there’s one thing that really grates on me about iOS on the iPhone it’s the notifications. They were much improved in iOS 5, but compared to Android, they’re just backwards. Not if this awesome-looking concept became a reality, though. Come on Apple, make it happen.
Back in my jailbreaking days, there were a few tweaks that implemented something like this, but they weren’t this slick looking. A notification pops up as normal, but there’s a respond button that drops down a message box for iMessages so you can reply instantly.
Why Apple hasn’t done something awesome like this already, I’ll never know, but it should just straight-up hire this guy and make it happen. [Sentry via Ubergizmo]

Look’s good
I wish Apple would do stuff like this, I know it’s copying Android, but why not, copy the good stuff.
Just not the patents
To live in such a beneficial world would be fantastic for all, our phones would advance, but sadly.. Apple and Samsung are already claiming the other have infringed patents, over pretty much everything.. E-ver-y-thing…
The beneficial world you talk about would kill all competition, and consequently, innovation. That is not capitalism. It is a hippie view of the world.
“true dat”
Do you think MS would sink 10b a year in R&D if people could just use whatever they make without giving themselves a competitive edge? Or google 4b?
No R&D would drop to pittence.
Maybe it would improve competition, you’d have to move faster to stay ahead.
Crackin’ idea. This is a lil’ hobby of mine, actually, I try to improve the interfaces and design of features/pages on sites.. It’s only really effective when you contact smaller, newer sites with your ideas, when I redesigned Timeline so it wasn’t horribly non-linear and cluttered to look at, and you could actually browse time faster, I doubt anyone at Facebook batted an eyelash it, unsurprisingly.
Similarly: A great tweak (iPad only), its Quasar.. Basically allows real multi-tasking, in which you can display a multitude of windows (apps) on screen, re-size them, rotate them.. All sorts.. Just needs a crop feature, for the iOS musicians out there! Just thought I’d spread the word.
I love aluminum.
I’ll be very interested to see what UI changes are coming, now that Forstall’s got the boot and Ive’s taken over software design as well as hardware. I’m quietly hopeful.
Bite SMS on a jail broken iPhone does this. That and the lock screen calendar are the only reasons I jailbreak these days.

bite SMS is superb. It also gives you the ability to have a 3 second grace period to cancel after pressing the send button. How many times have you pressed the send button by accident,.
I’m gonna go ahead and say djack.ellis has a point! Prozac unfortunately you are correct, however you shouldn’t be. After all this world that is vasty controlled by capitalism, is also the birth place of million wars! I’m not a hippie, I like packaged food and commercial business. However I do long for a day when technology companies work for the good of human kind not just the good of their bank accounts!
What’s monopoly if people weren’t playing against each other? Life and everything else wouldn’t make sense. This competition gives purpose and meaning to life. We’ve got this far only because of this system. I have faith that we will make it. Only need breeds innovation. Neccesity is the mother of invention.
Give human kind an enemy to beat (preferably aliens, cause that would be cool) and then you’ll see all of us come together. Until then, our little squabbles are all we’ve got for justifying our existence.
You’re both talking about different things entirely. The capitalism Prozac is eluding to bares no resemblance to the out of control monstrosity of a capitalist system we have today.
Many advocates of capitalism fail to see this entirely, and regard anything socialist as an affront to their ideals.
One thing I’ve never understood that’s missing from iOS is why isn’t there a “send when signal” function? Instead of constantly having to hit “send” or wait looking at your screen for that precious bar of signal! Madness.
Apple have gotta make this happen it looks great.
c’mon jail breaking community; incorporate this into the native iOS messaging app!
BiteSMS
BiteSMS does this and its great. I really dont know why Apple still insist on saying things are “new” and “magic”
I have a 4s jailbroken. I dont pirate apps on it, I use BiteSMS, an Android style system toggle accessed by swiping the screen but the most useful has to be (Google maps of course) an integration within Google maps that talks to TomTom or Navigon so you simply find the business, street etc and click navigate here with TomTom.
The app opens and away you go!
I wish I liked the Android os. I would move but its still too dispearsed for me.
