Our friends at Wired have a great gallery of forgotten and/or failed Apple products. Do you remember iPod socks? The QuickTake camera? What about the iPod Hi-Fi and Apple Bluetooth Headset? Yeah, it’s chock full of awkward products that never really took off like the iPhone and iPad.
My favourite weird Apple product has to be iPod socks. Nothing beats that, right? Check out the full gallery at Wired. [Wired]

I have the bluetooth headset. The idea behind it and the compatibility with the iPhone was fantastic. Including the iPhone charger with the Headset charger built in
I absolutely adored the socks! Bought the pack myself, used to use them all the time!
I think they’ll have a few more failures yet. Int because they’re products are crap, but because they’re pissing people off. I have a house full of Apple gear, but don’t want anymore. I’m sick of their attitude. Trying to patent everything to death is getting tiresome. Not following judicial orders, stupid. We all ripped Microsoft for wanting to control the PC market, well apple want to control everything, including rectangles.
I nearly skipped over reading your comment as another fanboy/anti-fanboy/rant-of-any-kind post. But I’m glad I didn’t because:
“We all ripped Microsoft for wanting to control the PC market, well apple want to control everything, including rectangles.”
Awesome – that gave me a good chuckle!
How dare they make fun of Apple’s ‘failures’. Once I discover who wrote this, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you… let me just fire up my Apple Maps.
Someone award this commenter a star!
the socks were actually a really good form of protection for the iPod family, unfortunately the iPod touch kinda killed it as the socks left lines on the screen. but i really loved ‘em. they worked well for my ‘after eight’ nano and my old LG viewty! (i know…. the humanity) the bluetooth headset was a very nice design and i wanted one but i never actually found one for sale.. and the ipod hi-fi…. OH wow! i loved this thing. i think i spent at least 25 minutes in tge apple store drooling over that bloody thing.. but you’re right it cost way too much. looking on ebay tonight they are still going for 130 quid plus! so even second hand value means this speaker is still out of reach from the ‘average’ man. but i think the list just proves that apple have a very eclectic design brief, and to be honest, they seem to be doing alright for themselves.
I actually bought an Apple iPod Hifi. Yes it was me.
It’s given years of faithful service. However 2 weeks ago it gave up the ghost. No power. Probably a simple fix, but I’ve just got no idea how to get into the thing. Classic apple manufacturing means there’s no screws or obvious fixing that will let you get into it to see what’s wrong.
Finally, someone who can understand the pain of owning the LG Viewty! I put mine in an iPod sock too funilly enough.
