Want an iPad Mini but you’re not sure it really fits into your already many-screened gadget line-up? Soundwaves of Tampa have an idea. Why not use it to turn your car stereo into an iDevice?
The iPad Mini only went on sale this morning, but these guys had a custom dash in a 2012 Toyota Corolla all prepared, and it looks like the slide-to-install method worked out just fine. This is a custom job, so it’s not really anything you could do, or even have done, but it’s a neat idea. That is, until changing your Facebook runs you off the road. At least you can take the Mini when you bail out. [9to5Mac]

Don’t really see any point in integrating it right into the dash, apart from looking clean. A good docking station would make it easier to pick up when needed.
So you can always play angry birds when you’re stuck in traffic. Also maybe so thieves can rip apart your car to get to the ipad.
Doesn’t one of the Telsa electric cars have a massive Android touch screen built into the centre console as standard?
I have no idea. I think the new touch to talk buttons that are in some cars have a lot of potential. I can imagine driving a new car next year and instructing the car to change suspension settings to sport, quicken the gear change, turn up the heating and sent a txt. That would have all been possible now if it wasn’t for the gulf of fragmentation and disjointed thinking among car manufacturers.
Just wait until self-driving cars become common place. Then the whole touch screen thing will really take off.
Well, assuming that we are still using touchscreens rather than holographic panels by then.
Silly idea. The iPad interface is designed for a usage distance of about 1 foot. In a car dashboard, all of the controls will be too small to use, particularly while driving. This is so dangerous.
