Some slightly gloomy shots of a phone supposedly known as the Sony Yuga have appeared online, revealing a possible future Sony Smartphone with a huge 5″ display. And it’s another member of the emerging 1080p phone club, too.
According to photos and specs published by Android-Schweiz, the Sony Yuga, also known in more formal circles as the Sony C6603, currently runs Android 4.1 as its OS, with the large display outputting at 1920 x 1080 resolution. The Yuga appears rather similar in style to this year’s excellent Xperia T, offering the same sort of minimalist, angular black case as the rest of Sony’s current Android line up.
Inside, the Yuga ought to be a worthy challenger to the best of the Android contenders, with the source claiming it features 2GB of RAM and a 1.5GHz quad-core chipset, presumably the same Qualcomm S4 Pro that’s soon to launch inside LG’s new Nexus 4. [Android-Schweiz via Techradar]

So much want. Been drooling over the HTC J Butterfly and DLX for weeks. Must acquire.
If you’ve been drooling over a HTC phone, why get a Sony?
I have no attraction to the brand, it’s just the screen size and resolution that I’d like. iPhone 4S is just too small
Well I suspect the HTC one will be with us soon enough, might be worth holding out for that.
I could really go for one of those- along with my 19″ 4k TV…
5″ ppffttt. My Galaxy Note 2 laughs at this megre size increase. That 1080p screen does sound good though, except I’m not sure my eyes could tell the difference and more pixels means more of a performance hit. Yeah, I’ll stick with 720p thanks.
Nooo.
I’m all for consumer choice, a device to fit every niche (like the Note), but that’s not what’s happening here. The best hardware is only going into phones with the largest screens.
4.7 inch is the current benchmark. Last year it was 4.3, before that it was 4 inch. My first Android handset, an HTC Hero, was a mere 3.2in.
Pretty soon, the flagship phones will all be 5 inch monsters. This bigger-is-better arms race has to stop some time.
