When Apple launched the iPhone 5 in September, the dev team behind Sparrow was quick to announce that it would be updating its wonderful email client for the new, larger screen—but Apple has rejected the new version of the app.
On Twitter, Sparrow dev Dinh Viet Hoa has announced:
Seems Apple has issues with Sparrow’s Rich Text support—which seems weird—but that means the next Sparrow update will be for iOS 6 devices only. Given Sparrow’s now owned by Google, it was surprising to hear that the app was being updated for iOS anyway—but regardless, the news is really quite frustrating. I bought this app when it was onsale, loved the GUI but missed the lack of push support. I did try the jailbreak tweak but it never worked with the latest release, so it’s all ended up in the bin.
Shame, hopefully Google are using the team to bring the same polish to their own iOS app.
