The last vestige of BlackBerry in the modern world, BBM, has a slick new feature that could stave off the overpopulation of BlackBerry’s in recycling bins and possibly please the few suit-wearing keyboard lovers left: the new BBM 7.0 has something called BBM Voice, a feature that basically offers free voice calling over Wi-Fi.
BBM is more than just super fast text messaging now. And it’s a sign that the folks at RIM aren’t crying mayday just quite yet. [Market Watch via The Verge]













Now that I think about it, how the hell did it take RIM this long to leverage BBM like this?
My sister’s phone had this in 2008…and it wasn’t even a smartphone (ollld nokia symbian).
Plus, the rest of the world actually has skype on their phones. If anything, this is just a sign that skype and other (video) calling services WON’T be coming to blackberry.
-Disgruntled Playbook owner who was promised skype on it during its original announcement presentation and more than a year and a half after the dreadful purchase still hasn’t been satisfied.
I’m sure their remaining 5 users are delighted
