Good news trekkers, trekkies, audiophiles and ciniphiles — the next installment of J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot sounds AWESOME. Paramount Pictures announced today that Star Trek will add to the (short) roster of films which are optimised for the new Dolby Atmos system such as Brave and The Hobbit.
The system is purported to deliver a more ‘natural sound’, though in this case it’s going to allow that phaser to sound like it’s shooting straight through you, rather than over your shoulder:
J.J. Abrams said of the move in a press release:
“We are in the incredible and lucky position to have access to the latest technology, the best possible tools, and the most talented artists in the business,”
Finally something to get truly excited about! Filming has wrapped up but an extremely tight lid has been kept on the operation, with the rumour mill having only the title and this three frame clip for fuel. Don’t worry though guys; I’ve worked it all out — THE REBOOT WAS ALL JUST SPOCK’S DREAM.

Indeed, that film was shocking.
No it wasn’t.
No he didn’t.
IMHO it was a well done ‘re-imagining’, a damn sight better than the horrible new version of Total Recall I watched the other day (shudder), which was truly awful!
If by ‘re-imagining’, dumbing down and adding flashy lights, then yes, that’s exactly what he did. Also, I got 40 minutes in to new version of Total Recall before I left the cinema.
Jaysus, after the abortions that were Generations & Final Frontier it well overdue for some reimagining
calm down. the new star trek film was a masterpiece.

Really, you’re excited about the sound production, not the fact that it could be a great movie or that new imagined technology in this film could inspire future real life developments (no other sci-fi franchise has ever been credited as much as Star Trek for inspiring scientists to create the gadgets we all want).

Well, Im a hardcore fan but he’s really not letting anything on. This we KNOW – It’s got Atmos.
Seriously though, I’d get excited if we found out what socks they were wearing.
I think you need to find alternative sources of excitement in your life if Atmos and socks are your trigger points.
