The tips in Windows 95 were close to useless. Everyone turned them off. If they’d been like this, though, we’d have lapped them up like sweet golden nectar.
Windows 95 Tips is the best Tumblr of recent time. It’s a selection of fictional Windows tips and messages that might not help with your use of the OS, but are hilarious nonetheless. See the whole lot over on Tumblr. [Windows 95 Tips via BoingBoing]

Nine Things We Really, Really Want from Windows Phone 8

I miss loading windows 95 on my old Toshiba libretto 75 mhz
all 25 (may have been 23) floppy disks, ohh the joy
That “It is now safe to turn off your computer” screen always seemed rather creepy to me. xD
Oh wow, I completely forgot that screen existed. I usually just punched the power button to turn it off though, so that probably had something to do with me not remembering=P
It was such an easy thing to change too! How many school computers did we ruin by altering it to swear words etc…
It is now safe to shutdown your computer… Dave.
I was 5… I’m just gonna glide straight past this post :p
you missed so much, i feel sad for you
you missed the days when 800×600 was hi resolution
3DFX Graphics card ruled the world
4xcd burners were expensive and ohh so fast, and buffer underuns were real things
reinstalling windows was an art form
quicktime was actually used by people, and even real player was used too
and dial up how could i forget dial up, that beautiful noise
I don’t remember the CD burners because I stuck with floppies for a very, very long time, but I do remember 800 x 600. Oh and real player was actually useful back then instead of an ad-infested piece of ****.
yeah real player was actually useful, i know its so hard to believe
OH MY GOD!
Have you seen these new ‘CD burners’? They can make a CD in like, an hour and a half!
This is the future man!
How could you miss WINAMP?
It really did whip the Llama’s arse!
damn, i am ashamed of myself now
heh don’t knock quicktime
i’d like to see you try & watch movies at triple speed on anything else!
I remember when I built PCs for a small shop around that time, trying to get the time taken from getting the motherboard out of its box through to deleting the MSN, AOL etc icons from Windows 95/98′s desktop as low as possible; achieving the perfect routing of IDE cables and the joy when we receieved the first Voodoo3 cards – proper 3D graphics, all in one, no more S3Trios!
Ah, happy days. *goes all misty eyed*
Haha, funny that I ended up in IT support. I remember the noise dial up made.
I miss my Voodoo 1 and Sound Blaster. Having to go in to Duke Nukems DOS setup just to alter the sound card values until I got sound and not bleurgh…
This.

ohh the many hours of listening to that sound, and then someone phones you and it drops your connection, and the modem clicks back in scaring the crap out of you (especially late at night when you were downloading the huge 365kb porn clips)
Oh the happy days of regurgitating MS Encarta for my homework. You could even plot astroid collisions on it …so many lost hours watching (at the time) amazing 3d videos, playing that maze game of the Windows 95 cd and watching the Weezer video. Going into dos to play command and conquer and fatal racing. Good times.
Who can forget searching for Easter Eggs in all the Office apps? Playing the flight simulator rather doing work before feeling shit because of the screen wobble.
