Everyone has a friend who packs all the gear, but has no idea. When it comes to photography, that means mates who run around with their shiny new DSLR, mouthing off about their love of photography, with next to no idea of how to use any of their kit. This video boils that right down, and is hilarious.
These people aren’t hard to spot: they make a song and dance out of composition; their pointless integrated flash pops up when they don’t expect it; and above all, they talk about their kit, rather than just using it. We all know one: do the stereotypes match up with a friend of yours? [YouTube]

lmao! love it, although i can relate to it
My integrated flash sometimes pops up when I don’t expect it.
(And for once, I’m not talking about my penis)
Other than that, close to the bone (still not penis), the rest was pretty funny.
That’s funny after reading on the “Most expensive gadget” article that you own a D7000, why would you ever put it on auto (disregarding letting someone else use it who doesn’t know anything about photography)?
Haha, well spotted. It’s only ever by accident. I never, ever select auto for shooting, it’s a waste of space on my dial. If I’m in a real hurry, I’ll select auto with the flash disabled, but the dial does occasionally slip!
I’m actually a bit obtuse about avoiding the on-board flash. I’ll shoot with grainy high ISO and blurry low shutter speeds before abandoning a shot altogether rather than have that horrible little thing go off.
Reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEwUnENlc9M – the bane of the event photographer’s life.
I wish I had such friends.
I get embarrassed taking my DSLR gear to crowded places. The other night I was out taking city night shots but every time a someone walked passed I got paranoid and hid!
Haha the last bit was brill!
