Virgin Media has announced a new converged mobile calling plan it’s calling SmartCall, a system designed to let you use your land line calling allowance on your smartphone through an app and any Wi-Fi connection you can borrow or steal.
SmartCall requires users to be a Virgin land line customer, and that’s about it. The service then uses a smartphone app to channel calls through a Wi-Fi connection, so you ought to be able to make unlimited calls through your phone whether at work, down the pub or in some exotic hotel reception area.
Android and iOS SmartCall apps will launch soon, with a Windows Phone version following later. Virgin says trials are complete and some customers ought to be invited to join the service over the coming weeks, ahead of a full roll out to all subscribers next year.

Do those women come with the Wi-Fi?
Right question.
I think Branson uses them to lure in top class athletes
I’m a Virgin home phone and broadband customer, both on XL tariffs. I’ve been waiting for them to offer a more competitive price on the Note 2, it’s £99 with a pricey subscription over 24 months. I haven’t got ‘MUG’ written on my forehead.
I’ve got ‘C*NT’ though.
