There’s something so sadistic about watching shiny new gadgets get dropped onto the hard, unforgiving deck. Surprisingly, given the glass back and cheap-as-chips price, the LG Nexus 4 took its hits like a man, at least on the first attempt.
The video’s in German, so I haven’t the foggiest what they’re saying about it, but on the first drop the Nexus 4 looks to come out totally unscathed. The second drop takes its toll on the back, however, but it’s really only a cosmetic corner issue — not a full back explosion like you used to get with the iPhone 4S.
Impressive stuff given the Nexus 4 is so cheap. Looks like LG hasn’t skimped on the build quality, which begs the question: by just how much is Google subsidising the phone, if it really is? Cheap and durable, Google’s latest flagship just keeps getting better and better. [YouTube via Phandroid]

And the screams of a multitude of people who failed to get the N4 on launch day and are angry at such wanton destruction can be heard from miles around.
At least this was a reasonable droptest, unlike that one with the n7
I know right. Just think, that could have been a healthy profit of around £400 in his pocket.
Why is it you keep mentioning selling the N4 for profit? I’m talking about those people who want the phone to use, not as a money making scheme.
It makes me sad
This one seems to be mhatti3000 proof
Unlike most peoples livers.
Can’t wait to get it!!!
!!!
actually the second drop test appears to have cracked the back glass all away across along with the impact point damage. Around 4:36 you can see that the glass fragment appears to be detaching itself: http://fuchsphones.de/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Nexus-4-droptest-fuchsphone-21.jpg
that could be dangerous for the user.
Well looks like all those comments along the lines of “The N4 is glaaaaaasss! Noooo!” were all a bit premature. Seems to take punishment quite well to me.
It’s beyond me why people pay £250-£500 for a phone and don’t buy
a) A screen protector
b) A gel case or bumper.
Such a dumb idea to have glass as the back……. should have just made it plastic so it would be able to bounce all day long. Funny thing is the screen is so hard to replace on the device too, even Apple have made it so simple now with the iPhone 5.
Think I’ll stick with Samsung products thanx, at least they know how to design a proper every day device.
If you’re a twat, your fingers are made of butter, and are planning to drop it from head height then by all means yes, this is a terribly designed phone. For a £230 device, it looks more expensive then the GS3 and far sturdier then the iPhone(insert number)
I seriously hate this guy. People all over the world are still waiting on their N4 and LG/Google decided it won’t even be released in the Netherlands (and other countries).
So FU very much for your desire for a few YouTube hits.
