Facebook bought Instagram for a bazillion, Digg sold itself for a Subway gift card, and countless startups are hoping to get copped too. But if you could make it happen, which company would buy out which?
I’d love to see Apple pick up the BBM division of RIM, the only wonderful slice in an otherwise feces-topped pizza, and use it to make iMessage as perfect as BBM has always been. Foursquare is also ripe for the picking, and mixing it into Apple Maps would make that beleaguered app super useful.
What about the rest of you?

Microsoft should buy my company.
I sell & fit window blinds – might be useful for when all those damn tiles make you want to kill kill KILLLLLLL
I’d quite like to see Microsoft buy Nokia, then we could have a true Microsoft phone. Not made with a partner, like a Nexus, but a true Microsoft phone, closer to an iPhone. Considering Microsoft’s new eye for design, it’d be be a pretty good looking phone too…
That would be a tantalising prospect (I rather like the Lumia 800) however such a phone would hopefully not skimp on battery. One thing that gets me about Nokia’s WP offerings is that their designed are relatively bulky yet battery life can still be somewhat irksome.
I would like to see Apple pick up any design start up that could aid them in making iOS actually look attractive. In fact, if this magical world of who buys who doesn’t need to worry about competition issues I would love to see Apple somehow pick up Windows Phone and use that as the next iOS without any backwards compatibility issues or such like. All the apps, all the People hub goodness, all the Apple hardware, all the artist-formerly-known-as-Metro goodness.
One can hope.
Now they have Jony Ive in charge of that, I’m not too sure that will be necessary.
I am cautiously optimistic about the way in which Ive will guide Apple’s UX and UI sensibilities. Hopefully we see some tighter integration and something as intuitively friendly and quick to use as Windows Phone. I would love to jump ship from WP7 to Apple hardware so that communication between my main computer and phone is better however, as lovely as the iPhone 5 is to hold, unlocking the device splats a cluster-vomit of icons which really don’t show anything onto your poor retinas.
I think Google should buy Apple.
No no no no no no no, SAMSUNG should buy Apple
Samsung don’t need to buy them, they just steal parts of them bit by bit until they have the full package
I’d like to see Nokia buy Saab cars.
They’d have that whole Scandinavian vibe going on and I think they could combine to make magnificent designs with wonderful build quality and an innovative and well-thought out feel.
I’d also like Amazon to buy LG. Take the wonderful feel, build quality and understated good looks of the latest Kindles and combine it with mobile phones and other electronics. Lovely.
agree microsoft should buy nokia, but keep it as a separate company.
I would like to see rim profitable again (most people i reckon have had a blackberry of one sort or another at some point) i wouldn’t like to see them die, although i wouldn’t want a blackberry now.
Apple could buy ‘The Patent Office’ ….Oh wait do bribe count as part of the purchase lol
LG should buy philips, philips have some good ideas, but don’t seem to push them well
I’d like to see Google buy Liverpool, so we could buy some world class players. They could also re-write history so some of the current lot never signed for the club (Joe Cole I’m talking about you)
I’d like to see anyone buy Time Warner so the James Bond films stop being a big Sony advert. Also, as Google are starting to bring out more hardware producfts, I wouldn’t mind seeing them buy Comet. Jobs saved, more retail outlets than Apple to sell their wares.
Apple should buy Imagination Technologies (PowerVR Graphics), TSMC ( Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and either buy the whole of TI’s mobile division or acquire the Burr-Brown Corporation stuff that TI bought a while back. They can also probably afford to buy Sharp’s display division and Sony’s Exmoor sensor division.
That lot would help the iPhone division no end
On the flip side Samsung should buy Google and take control of Android.
Then let Samsung and Apple fight it out between themselves for world domination!
Apple should have bought Google when Sergey Brin approached Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg should have worked far more closely with Apple from the beginning as well. Imagine what Apple would be like with Google replacing the stupid mobile me and now even worse iCloud rubbish.
Rim should be bought by Apple or Google because there are lots of little back end services they could each utilise. What I would love to also see is companies using each others patents at a fee (as long as the patent was totally iron clad and not ‘your product is rectangular, pay us’) but more like generic technology itself.
Patent wars is what stifles tech for us consumers. Thank you for reading
