Following the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy, the Westboro Baptist Church is unsurprisingly stirring up controversy by doing one of the things they do best: being assholes and picketing funerals. Your friendly, faceless, neighbourhood hacking group Anonymous has responded by doing what they do best: publishing private information, in this case, about the members of the Westboro Baptist Church.
Anonymous has now published a list of Westboro Baptist Church members along with plenty of personal information such as home addresses, emails, and phone numbers. On the more legal end of the activism spectrum, the group is also pushing a petition to legally recognise the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group. And what do you know, it’s already gotten the required number of signatures.
Anonymous also released a video, explaining—with characteristic Anonymous flair—the group’s beef with the church:
“Since your one-dimensional thought protocol will conform not to any modern logic, we will not debate, argue, or attempt to reason with you. Instead, we have unanimously deemed your organization to be harmful to the population of The United States of America, and have therefore decided to execute an agenda of action which will progressively dismantle your institution of deceitful pretext and extreme bias, and cease when your zealotry runs dry. We recognize you as serious opponents, and do not expect our campaign to terminate in a short period of time. Attrition is our weapon, and we will waste no time, money, effort, and enjoyment, in tearing your resolve into pieces, as with exposing the incongruity of your distorted faith.”

Wrong video? I’m seeing De Zeen Philips Lumiblade…
I don’t know what a Lumiblade is, but I want one.
It’s the new Nokia pocket knife. With GPRS and Wifi.
Lumia + handblade = Lumiblade.
Oh, one of these?

Well, I say damn good show guys and gals. Its about time these religious zealots (not the jewish version) got their comeuppance. Maybe they can also sort this poor chaps http://www.ydr.com/local/ci_14780513?source=most_viewed problem some how.
Do these bastards own any actual church building? Would be nice to hold a counter protest.
I think they built one for their ‘special’ community. I suggest we go there and riot.
I will bring empty beer bottles and some rags. You know what to bring.
I always wonder about these splinter groups like Westboro, especially Westboro. I mean, have they ever actually read the Bible, like properly. I remember quite a lot about “judge not, lest ye be judged”, “Love thy neighbor.” “God is Love.” etc… but i don’t remember the passage about standing with placards celebrating the death of dead soldiers, and telling the world that “God hates fags”. There is that passage about a man lying with another man, admittedly, but there’s also stuff about a woman being unclean on her period, and scorpion tailed locusts…
What the books mostly preach is love and tolerance (like most holy books), and you cannot take individual sentences and make them your mantra, as the tales were handed down as plays and stories, before being written down hundreds of years later.
Fundamentalist splinter groups are usually taking verses from sources out of context and twisting them into their own interpretation.
Cognitive dissonance is what mostly, I believe, describes people in these groups best:
“state of inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, esp. as relating to behavioural decisions and attitude change.”
You can basically find an argument for or against anything in there if you try hard enough. Much like today, we pick the parts that agree/correlate with the morals of modern society, and ignore the nasty bits.
Amen ! You are right.
I know right, plus the whole soldiers thing – David, a man described in the bible as ‘a man after God’s own heart’ is a soldier! The story of Jericho yeah those are soldiers marching round the city and I could go on in fact pretty much every book between numbers and chronicles talks about war.
There are so many ways to rip apart the beliefs of groups like this all it takes is a cursory glance at the Bible to understand that this is not biblical Christianity.
It really worries me that out of the entire Christian Church these are the people that get the press. Mind you it’s the same for Islam as well.
I think the main problem is dogma. When the pastor/vicar/preacher/whatever title tells you something as an absolute, that’s a problem. If you can read the scripture for yourself, and make up your own mind, then that’s intelligent. But then there will always be people who want to impose their view on you.
It absolutely is true for all major religions as jtanzO rightly says. Also, i agree that you can twist the words/find a piece of scripture to support any argument, particularly if you take it out of context.
Well, only one way to get these fools off the Internet, Don’t use their ISP http://directnic.com/ for domains, nor use their web hosts http://www.blacklotus.net/, spread that so anyone who supports their online antics feel the pain for being money hungry against all odds!
Sorry, who’s are these?

Ah, ok… just wondered.

The trouble is even by talking about these guys we give them the publicity the crave.. If everyone just totally ignored them, zero media coverage then they cannot achieve what they want to do.
I do realise what i have just written is the very opposite of what i posted..
praise Jeepers.
