Bloomberg is reporting that it believes HTC is currently working on a range of new tablets that will run Windows RT. The devices are, apparently, slated for a 2013 launch.
The report suggests HTC is working on a “12-inch device and a 7-inch version that can also make phone calls”. Sources “familiar with the matter” have also explained to Bloomberg that the tablets will be powered by Qualcomm chips, and are tentatively scheduled to appear in the third quarter of 2013. So, they’re some way off.
One interesting point worth noting: if the rumours are in fact correct, HTC’s 7-inch tablet would be the first small-scale tablet to run Windows RT. The news, then, might signal Microsoft’s first attempt to join in the Kindle Fire/Nexus 7/iPad mini fight. Also, a 12-inch tablet but no 10-incher seems likes a strange call. But then, this is a rumour, so nothing’s certain.
The company is also said to have been considering a tablet running Windows 8, but ditched the idea when it realised it would prove costly — at somewhere around £800
Now might be a good time to point out that HTC doesn’t have a swell track record with tablets. Its Flyer — pictured above — was overpriced and underperformed. And that stylus; oh, that sylus. Still, working collaboratively with Microsoft may solve some of those problems. If the rumors are accurate, let’s hope that’s the case. [Bloomberg]

£800 <— Really! Good luck HTC on breaking even.
Sorry, they ditched the idea, need coffee.
people seem to get really upset when the Windows Tablet costs £800, but its (supposed) to be the format to compete with Ultrabooks not iPads and how much are Ultrabooks? £700 plus.. so its not all bad is it..
Windows 8 RT is the tablet version and it lacks in many aspects compare to full fledged OS on Ultrabooks.

Even an 10 inch laptop could do more than a Windows Tablet could do. I think Microsoft watered down RT a bit too much.
i know.. but it said up above that the £800 tablet would be using WINDOWS 8 not RT.. which would compare to a UB. maybe i was not clear in my original post. but you prove clearly that its easy to confuse the 2..
I’m shooting myself for it, sorry didn’t see it. That would be awesome actually!
Hey Giz community, little advice here. My girlfriend’s looking to get some kind of portable device for bringing into lectures to read and annotate notes and maybe write the occasional essay on. Her laptop is a bit too clunky to carry around and her Kindle doesn’t handle pdf’s well. She was leaning towards getting a tablet, but I wasn’t sure how well it would be suited for her purposes especially if she wanted to annotate pdf’s etc (which she does through OneNote atm) or write an essay
I suggested a Surface as it seemed to be something that fulfilled her need for a laptop/tablet device without venturing into the £700+ price that ultrabooks are.
Thoughts/comments/advice?
Laptop bags? Or, a Nexus 7 with keyboard cover and wireless mouse worth a try?

Not too sure about annotate PDF’s, sorry.
Haha yeah a laptop would be a cheap solution, but no it’s more her laptop’s generally a bit heavy and she really doesn’t need the extra few kilos on top of her textbooks etc. Yeah so that was the other option, getting a tablet with a keyboard and mouse but I dunno I just found the Surface to be a more elegant solution.
Aye, I also think it is a much better solution, since surface RT will have full support for office documents and it is built to be both tablet and laptop at the same time, comes down to personal preference though mate and only way to find out is to try out at the stores
