FlashArmyKnife in the iOS App Store has secret built-in powers that will allow you to tether you iPhone to a computer for no extra charge. The app costs £1.49, while using your iPhone’s data connection on a separate device would cost you a monthly fee.
As we said before, the app’s tethering capabilities are secret so you’ll need to entere a Konami Code-like cypher from the app’s trigonometry calculator to get the tethering to work.
Go to calculator in F.A.K. Enter following without commas:
1642, M+, C, 1452, M+, C, 1943, M+
When it says “run”, tethering is running. Press “C” to stop tethering.Necessary ports:
HTTP: 6667
SOCKS: 6668
The apps people at Apple are all currently on vacation, and iTunes Connect will be completely down until Friday so, presumably, FlashArmyKnife will just chill in the app store until then. That said, if you’re interested in giving it a shot, now’s the time to go.
Warning: While we know the app’s tethering works, we can’t be sure it’s not some sneaking under-handed way of getting at your personal information. But the developer Eric Blase seems to be relatively open about his identity for whatever that’s worth to you.

iTether App Slips Through Apple's Approval Process and Tethers Your Phone For £10.49 Without Jailbreaking
iTether Is Back, Bypassing Hotspot Restrictions and the App Store
Download This iPhone Tethering App Before It Gets Pulled
So this showcases just how safe Apple’s app checks are…..
And if it doesn’t work, you get a iflashlight that is more than just a flash light!
No reviews thus far though. Should I risk the £1.49? Easy money for the developer if the tethering functionality isn’t actually in there…
Note that a Mac or PC is essential for the tethering setup.
You need to create an ad hoc wifi network with your PC or mac for this to work.
Is not a viable solution for that commute into work unless you are using a laptop.

With O2 i can Tether anyway and had just presumed all networks let you.
Depends on your plan or you may have a tethering bolt on. I don’t have one, so when I set a personal hotspot i don’t get any internet throughput. Current price plan for a basic 02 tethering bolt on is £7.50 (?) month for 500mb data… sod that!
Unfortunately O2 can block iphone hotspots at their end, which makes this kind of app very useful, if it works. On jailbroken phones you can use a paid app.
Thats very odd as i’m on a basic £10.50 a month Loyalty plan as i’ve been with O2 since they were Genie about 11 years ago, i do have a £6 500mb bolt on, but thats just because i was using the tethering to the point I ran out of Data.
orange openly allows to tether using your data plan and if there is an issue change the plan to a panther one as the hotspot functionality comes as standard with these.
Or I could just go in to settings and turn on personal hotspot?
Oh for Christ’s sake…
Read the goddam article. “The app costs £1.49, while using your iPhone’s data connection on a separate device would cost you a monthly fee.”
The personal hotspot option is not there unless you pay extra each month, or it’s part of your contract…
Odd, I’m on a basic vodafone contract and its there for me…
And it’s displayed there for me on Three, but I’m not on The One Plan so I’m not allowed to use it. Sad times
Oh right, Ive never been charged for using it.
Urm yeah, they’ve taken it down…
Kind of pointless, as if people wanted to tether with an iPhone, they would have got a contract which allows it by default in the settings menu.
I lol when I read that a standard feature of phone must be hidden in an app.
My Galaxy Note just has a toggle switch for this feature, I fail to understand why these “I Phones” have such trouble enabling something so basic.
Well the IPhone has this option, but the networks often do not allow it
FFS
Firstly, it’s called the iPhone, you don’t need quotations. Secondly, the iPhone (along with most other new phones on windows and android) have a button to enable tethering just like your precious Note. HOWEVER just switching on the feature doesn’t mean you can go nuts tethering all sorts, you need it included in your data plan. (this is the same for all iPhone, Windows and Android users, including you). This app allows you to bypass this and tether from your normal data allowance.
And before you say “oooh i don’t have to have something separate, i just get it free”. Maybe so, eg on the original t-mobile full monty tariff tethering was included free, yet it is still classed as an additional feature which you must have selected from your NETWORK. So if anyone wants to come on here and shout about how they have something better than everyone else, they should be talking about data plans and networks, NOT mobile phone manufacturers. SMH
Three, unlimited data, tethering at no extra cost. I had my apple TV and laptop tethered last night, steaming HD films off my laptop and watching HD trailers with the 3G, which was pumping out an insane 12-3mbps.
The comments section here is full of confusing statements.
Here’s some things that simply are:
I have had an iPhone since the 3GS.
I have been with O2, paying £30/mo but for a very, very basic contract as I paid off the handset, with about 100 minutes, 200 texts, data and no bolt ons.
I have had an O2 simplicity £10/mo with data (no bolt ons)
I have had a basic three package, negotiated in store, definitely not the “One” package, with data.
I have also been with T-mobile and vodafone under similar circumstances, never paid for any extras.
With all these companies, I have always been able to use the iPhones built in wi-fi hotspot. Never been prevented, never had extra added to my bill, never needed a special service or whatever.
And why should I? The data that comes to my iPhone is barely any different to that that goes to my computer. It is standard HTTP traffic. Images, html, javascript, etc. It’s not even compressed anymore for the web. Streaming HD videos? Yep. Downloading games and apps? Mmhmm. Can they even tell the difference?? Not in my experience…
Tethering was not free on my 3GS with iPhone O2 tariff. Switching it on was giving me a message to pay extra for the privilege. This was removed on the 4S and tethering was included for free. It has been ever since, even on non-iPhone tariffs.
It was never included on my Android phone on Orange – had to pay extra. Always included on all 3 data plans I had.
