Every so often, the great Internet resource that everyone uses Wikipedia starts asking people for donations. This year a gigantic morning pee-coloured banner pops up asking for a few bucks so the lights can stay on and we can all get free information. It’s a great cause! Can you imagine the internet without Wikipedia? But have any of you guys ever donated?
NY Mag hilariously decided to find out who the people who donate to Wikipedia are and “if they’re just better people in general”? It’s pretty great, they ask people if they’ve donated to Wikipedia and why and then ask them a follow up question involving picking up trash, calling their parents and pressing the ‘close door’ button in an elevator. Check it out here. [NY Mag]

Facebook Makes Organ Donation Social
First time ever a few days ago. Thought “what the f**k, why not?”
exactly the same
Yeah, I did a few days ago, posted the link on Facebook and a few friends did too.
Is that OK? Am I uncool now?
I donated £10 a few days ago myself, I use it all the time, I guess at this point its the least I could have done really.
Twice so far. Last year and the year before. Haven’t been on wiki recently, so I didn’t realise that it’s that time of the year already.
£100 a year, every year.
I wouldn’t miss Wiki if it went tits up as there is a whole internet out there with the relevant information I need on it.
Nah, I’m not sure it is actually that useful. I’m undecided but think it gives people an illusion of deep knowledge about a subject that is actually very shallow.
At least it’s not pictures of the editors or Jimmy Wales again. Last year I avoided wikipedia for most of the donation drive because it was like being accosted by chuggers at lunch time and after work. You want to get where you’re going and back again without being waylaid by over-enthusiastic do gooders that should be in class at uni learning something. If you can get past them without telling them to ‘fuck off’, you’ve done well.
I donated last year. Haven’t spent an awful lot of time on Wiki recently though
Since I’ve recently become a full-time student again, I donated £5 (not much, but I’ve got beans to buy). I figured since I’d be using it a lot over the next few years, I should do my bit.
