Since 1940, Batman‘s been haunting the streets of Gotham, busting perps in ways only he can manage, but his logo, well that’s changed quite a bit over the years. From the classic oval-shaped Batman Returns, to the pointy, sharp-looking Dark Knight, complete with lethal ninja death stars, here’s the evolution of the iconic bat.
You can buy massive limited edition prints of these beauties for £37 a pop, plus shipping. Although, it’s a bit late to get em in time for Christmas I guess; maybe you could just print off the image with an IOU under the tree? [Calm the Ham via Design You Trust via io9]

Glad to see you are an i09 fan too Sam, i love that site, shame about the commenting system though.
Yeah, io9′s a goodun. Almost part of the family too. Bit like a cousin I guess.
You mean your nerdy cousin who hates Jar-Jar, cries over the loss of firefly, had to see an anger management therapist after watching The Last Airbender, Burned his original 1980′s Transformers single Duvet and Pillow set after Bays first movie was released and just had his George Lucas Tattoo covered with a picture of Peter Jackson? That one?
I love Nolans the most, it’s kind of ethereal with a strong sense of aggression. I always found it unique how the drawn symbol on Batman’s suit in Batman Begins in no way looked like the films logo for Batman. I mean his batarangs looked like the film Logo, but his costume had the symbol shown in the image above. Only in Dark Knight did he fully adopt the film logo as his suit emblem.
I see in ’65 someone designed a logo that was the basis of every good batman logo since, and it seems it was perfected in ’92 and never got any better since. ’83 & ’89 WTF, 80′s design!
From a design point of view, I’ve never personally liked any of the batman logos. But like shit to a blanket, a bad choice of design sticks to the franchise. Especially 1940, 1995 and 1999. Even the most modern logos have been a bit crap. Probably doesn’t help that I HATE Batman Forever and the original series.
Hey Gizmodo Editors / Writers. In future when showing an image that has text on it would it be possible to upload the image as a resolution where the text is readable?
I have noticed this more and more on Giz. This site seems to be getting less professional by the day.
That’s the max image size the source provides. Take it up with them.
Boom! back in your box shadowmatt
No it isn’t.

Yeah thats more like it. Thanks!
You can just drag an image into the Google Images search box, then click ‘all sizes’, and it will probably show you a larger copy of that image. It must be quite an obscure trick if even tech writers don’t know it.
Bang! Come out of your box shadowmatt. Then force Sam into it
Am i the only one that thinks ’93 looks like DS9? =P
That, and an inverted image of a mans legs and schlong (look at the top half of the logo) I always knew that as Batman’s 18+ year.
Ha! Yes, your right, i’d even go as far as to say it looks like a top down view of a lady about to get a nice new pearl necklace for christmas!
Exactly, once you see it you can’t un-see it
Man, it’s the dolphins all over again!

My poor, poor brain.
I have no idea what was going on in the 1993 logo, where the creators of that particular series big fans of Deep Space Nine?
Why is the Batman Begins logo different to the Dark Knight (Rises) logo? In fact, what’s with the Dark Knight Rises logo too? Weren’t the cracks simply for promotional purposes?
It looks like whoever made this wanted an even number of logos, despite the fact that the Arkham games logos are the same and so are the Nolan batman logos.
The actual logo for the first two films is the one they show for The Dark Knight. However, the symbol they’ve shown for Batman Begins is the that was on his suit in that film, not the film’s logo. (The Suits logo changed to the current one when he upgrades it in The Dark Knight.) The logo shown for The Dark Knight Rises is correct, however the symbol on his suit remains the same as The Dark Knight.
1983 and 1993 were the worst design attempts
Not sure where that 1989 logo came from, but it’s wrong (it should be the same as the 1992 one).
