You typically don’t think of water towers as being a particularly interesting outlet for architectural design, but that’s not always the case. Photographer Jamie Young has been documenting the water towers of Ireland, and they are awesome.
Young has been investigating these mammoth water reservoirs for a while now, and has built up a large but still-growing collection of pictures of striking monsters. The collection celebrates each of the tower’s uniqueness and their overall lack of adherence to any sort of scale or unifying design aesthetic. But mostly it just covers the fact that these things are cool. You can check out Young’s growing collection at his site for the project. [Water Towers of Ireland via Designboom]

They all remind me of men in black..
The headline is incorrect. Ireland does not, in fact, have the coolest water towers.

worst photos possible, you mean pictures of bits of towers,
dont ask the guy to do wedding shots or you will get headless or torso shots.
Did you click on the thumbnails, you get the whole picture then.
“we can’t afford paint”
(that’s what i think whenever i see a watertower)
At college I studied Photography and tried to imitate Bernd and Hilda Becher’s work but only managed to find one decent near me, I guess I should have perhaps gone to Ireland instead. Here is what they came up with: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5bVN3kXOxFc/TTqie7cdU6I/AAAAAAAACy8/FqqQVwWP77s/s1600/13+Water+Towers.jpg
The only interesting one near me is at the side of the M11 by Stansted Airport: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6RV43TeNEYg/TdkQAkD0rGI/AAAAAAAABKk/EdMWHzjq6vs/s1600/57TodayLarge1.JPG
