Electronic music superstar and friend of Gizmodo Deadmau5 just got engaged to the beautiful and talented Kat Von D. (Congrats dudes!!!) But no matter how happy we are for the love birds, we can’t seem to agree about whether or not popping the question on social media is OK. Discuss.
@deadmau5 YES!

This Guy Proposed to His Girlfriend By Faking a Plane Crash
A Molecular Scientist Wrote This Marriage Proposal in DNA
No, Nobody Is Going to Use a Projector Phone to Propose
Oooh the tattoo bird, *rubs thighs*
Is this where we find out he left his account logged in somewhere? It does seem a bit … odd
Old news guys, the Daily Mirror beat you to this by two days.

So they can’t post anything unless they’re the first one to post it? Seems a little harsh. Also, the US article was posted yesterday and given the time zone delay, I think it’s fair enough.
Old comment dude, this article is well old now.
Twelve months from now….

I can’t wait for Christmas so …. Katherine Von Drachenberg, I’m divorcing you.
It depends on what you are proposing?
Giggedy
Ofcourse it’s not ok! It’s like the time a (former)friend of mine proposed to a girl over MSN =/
Of course it’s ok.
As long as you’re a self loathing husk of a person who cares more about pointless self promotion and publicity than you do about the person you are proposing to.
I don’t know why you would do this (apart from the above), surely if you loved that person and wanted to be with them forever then you would want to share this special moment together.
Well said, I thought the same thing when I saw this.
at first i agreed with your view, but now i don’t. i guess it’s subjective, particularly related to what kind of import you give to the concept of marriage in the first place.
even if you want to get married, there are a lot of people who couldn’t give two shits about the proposal, ceremony, vows, tradition etc.
“surely if you loved that person and wanted to be with them forever then you would want to share this special moment together.”
But this is really just someone telling the wider community that he has just proposed, without it sounding like 2nd hand info while he does the PR rounds. The same as calling mates up and saying, guess what?
I am sure this is the case, but if it wasn’t you could also state ‘surely if you loved that person and wanted to be with them forever then you would want to share this special moment with everyone.’
Tradition is the living faith of the dead – live.
I think it’s pathetic and impersonal. At least put some thought into proposing to your loved one.
I’m not sure why you’d want to do it via social media. Some things are better done in the flesh. At a minimum I’d say you need to pretend to crash a plane and if possible mock up a zombie apocalypse.
who cares, up to them..
I did mine under the leaning tower of pisa, nothing new, ground was hot as fu*k so the one knee thing lasted about 12 seconds.. HAHA
NO
I wouldn’t mind betting that he asked her in a more personal way first and then once she said yes, asked again on Twitter. And if this is the case, then I don’t see the problem.
