Images taken with an unannounced Asus tablet calling itself the ME172V have popped up on image sharing site Picasa, with the low-res 1280 x 720 photos fitting nicely with the 1-Megapixel front-facing camera expected in the new budget tablet.
One thing’s for sure — this is not a fake. The photos have been uploaded to an account belonging to Asus, so we do know for sure it has something with a low-res camera on ready for launch. Whether or not it’ll be Nexus-branded is another thing, though.
However, we’ve previously heard supply chain sources claiming Google’s and Asus are readying a super-budget Nexus that’d hit the US for $99 and the UK for hopefully a decent pounds equivalent, plus this ME172V model has also been spotted before. And it’s appeared in online benchmark tests, which reveal a low-spec, 1GHz processor and equally downgraded 1024 x 600 display.
So it might happen. [Digital Reader via Slashgear]

Specs Leaks: the Xbox 720 Will Get Pwned by the PS4
That’s £60.86 as per today’s rate, hell when does it come out? Can see it as in-car entertainment.
Probably be closwr to £99 over here. We never get the prices n a straight conversion
That is because the converted price doesn’t take into account sales tax which tends to vary per state whilst ours is a standard national tax.
Going from £60 to £99 is a 67% increase so if this was the case then it’s not just because of a 20% VAT. Having said that, the Nexus devices’ prices have converted quite reasonably in UK (i.e. they haven’t just swapped the $ to £ which is what normally happens).
I’m not saying they don’t try to screw us over, I’m just pointing out that they don’t actually pay $99 in the US either because once you add the ~8% sales and additional local taxes their price is also higher.
Plus doing a direct conversion doesn’t take into account the imbedded exchange rates within the companies making and selling the device which, if they are US based, would probably be bad for us given the relative strength of the USD.
And, as you say, Google have actually been relatively fair in their nexus pricing so far, and Amazon seem to have started down a fairer route too.

By the time this comes out, Kindle Fire might be under 100 quids
meh kindle fire, with that nasty crippled version of android it should be cheap
Aye, it’s not a complete product and also a 7incher. Agreed.
its all personal taste i know but actually i prefer the 7″ form factor, it fits in my pocket (yes i wear combats, and yes i know its not the 90s anymore but i dont care!) but i wouldnt swap my nexus 7 for a nexus 10, i do have a 10″ tab (a touchpad dual booting ics/webos) its all well and good at home but when out and about i find it a bit unwieldy
I wear combats too and hate skinny jeans! 7inch is portable but phablets are better on that case imho.
maybe so but most phablets are like a 5″ phone, and i simply cant give up a hardware keyboard on a phone i do too much typing on it (im the king of the insanely long text message)
the tablet is for comics/books/games/movies if someone made something like a note or even an s3 with a hardware qwerty id be on it like a madman but its not going to happen so ill stick to my desire z for my phone and have the tab so i can use the latest android features etc, im not too bothered about having to carry 2 devices so its good for me
Everytime I go past Desize Z, it calls me like the ring in LOTR! I hate typing on touchscreens too (exception was Nokia 5800, sounds crazy right?) Luckily, I don’t type on phone a lot, but yes it’s true, when I do, I don’t like it.
it like to point out that the N7, N4 & N10 have all recently bucked the dollars to pounds trend, If this a Nexus Product I don’t see why it can’t too.
Nexus 7S?
apple have probably patented the letter “S” in the name of any product, even thinking about it will get you sued (prepare for the angry ghost of steve jobs and his lawyers to be visiting you tonight!)
LOL!
The Nexus Scarlet… Because they’ll seek it here, they’ll seek it there… And you’ll have feck all chance of buying one!!!
I’m just a dedicated follower of fashion…
thats staggeringly cheap (that said i just bought a 16gb nexus 7 for a chrimbo present for £135) if its of the build quality of the n7 then it should be a fantastic tab for those who just want a cheap reader/browser
